Hot start problem

Post

My gti has a strange fault and I don't no where to start.

It starts fine from cold but as soon as it's been running for more than a few minutes. I switch it off and leave it for ten minutes and it then takes about 40 seconds of cranking to start again?

Any ideas and advice welcome
Thanks in advance Dan

Assuming its a KJet GTI sounds like fuel accumulator is leaking or the non-return valve in the fuel pump has failed, check over the rest of the system first though: (ignore 16v parts just look at kjet bits)

Yes it's a kjet.
i have looked underneath and noticed the accumulator is very damp so I'm going to replace it and go from there.
Wheres the best place to buy one from?
cheers Dan

Check the hoses to the accumulator as well, I have a brand new boxed Bosch accumulator for a mk2 golf which is compatible just a bit smaller if your interested

gsf used to do them, or sometimes you get lucky on ebay. there are a few different manufacturers that use them they may look a bit different but as long as they have just the 2 connections on same size and the vw ones they'll work fine

I had this with my carb engine. I never did fully rectify it, but my research found things like my fuel tank being negatively pressurised, fuel pipes being too close to exhaust and evaporating the fuel, leaking injectors flooding cylinders etc. Doesn't happen now, but was annoying at the time. I'd be interested in what the actual fix is.
