Washer pump

Post

Hi all

I am having a problem with my washer pump. The pump itself works when powered and pulling the stalk causes ye wipers to move but no pump.

Is there another relay I should check before I get into the wires?

Many thanks.

take the plastics off the ign lock housing and look in the base of the stalk when you pull the stalk and you'll see the metal contacts for wash/wipe, give em a slight bend and buff the contact points with sandpaper so they make better contact :)

Thanks Jonny, got the cover off and there seems to be some bodging.  The contacts are touching OK and I forced them together to ensure they touched.

What I found was that the MFA stalk has two wires on it (brown and white stripe and red and white stripe I believe) that have been connected onto, one of them has been connected to 12v (looks like the brown and white one on MFA is connected to a yellow and red feed on the plug at the left had side of the steering column) and the other (red and white) seems to be connected to a wire that runs straight to the pump.

I thought that they maybe trying to switch the 12v via the MFA stalk but there does not seem to be any connection between them when the MFA contacts are closed, so I am now confused.

Anyone know what the MFA wires are for and how the windscreen wash pump should fire is it a direct feed or via a relay ?

Thanks in advance.

nice :(the mfa wires should go to a 2 pin plug on the dash loom. 1 wire goes to the clocks and the other needs an earth. on the factory loom it runs over to a male spade with the clock earth wire from there a female spade wire in with the engine loom runs off to earth on the side of the head
