Full beam and indicator issue

Post

Hey,

I have an issue with my right hand indicator. Every time I turn it to right it pops fuse 19, the left hand side works perfect. I also have an issue with my right hand side main beam which pops fuse 9.

I posted in the newbie section but thought i would put it in the correct one.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Ben

you have a short in your loom, all you can do is have a good look!

Ok as a total newbie to tinkering with cars, do you have any pointers as to where would be a good start to search with the loom?

Thanks for the help :)

I would start in the engine bay at the lights, also check in the boot for the rear indicator wiring :)

do the hazards work ok or does that short fuse also

Hey, I just tried the hazard switch and it doesn't blow the fuse but the indicator light stays on solid. Also had a look at the wiring loom and there doesn't appear to be any shorts. the fuse box isn't attahed properly so I'm guessing someone's had a go before me haha.

Cheers!

now i would go in under the dash, look for wire bodgery to the stalk and hazard switch wires. a good one would be a dodgy alarm installation they usdually tap into the indicator wirign to flash the lights, if one of these has gone bad then it would explain the shorting

have a look at fuse 4 this is the perm live for the hazard switch, this one has probably popped for the same reason the indicator wiring is shorting

If the fuse box has been dropped out from its hangers, it's very easy to trap a wire in the little hooks that the fuse box rests on. Could take several miles of use before it actually shirts.

Or…, where have you been working on the car recently?

Finally managed to fix the fault. The owner before me had for some reason decided to link the indicator cable to the headlight! can't believe i didn't realise sooner!

Many thanks for your help too! :)
