Cabriolet rear window leak

Post

Hi all,

I know this is a pretty common problem but my rear window in the cabby is leaking rather badly from a bottom corner (on a brand new hood…).

I've read through a bunch of threads on this topic and run round the edges with silicon inside and out and still no joy!

When people recommend sealing the outside, is that by lifting the outer edge of the rear window seal and running a bead all round there under the seal?

When you had the new roof fitted assuming that you did.
Did they fit a new window rubber surround?   O_o

They used a second hand window and frame that were in much better condition than my previous ones.
Don't think it was a new seal though, although it looks in decent shape! Should I just try to find a new rear seal? Or get it out and have a go at resealing it?

you need to silcone the rear window in place as per the guide linked above

I would not use silicone on my car, you can buy windscreen sealer which is much better stuff to use, worked very well on my car.
Looks like this, I found it from a local motor factors

the proper cab gear is non-setting mastic type stuff, it stays flexible. horrible to work with

Thanks for the replies and tips guys. Will scrape out the old silicon and dry it out, and find some of that epoxy mastic stuff. That guide was great too, cheers for that!

Then it's just onto all the other interior leaks, and that bloody door-to-hood seal…

The stuff I posted a link to above is the stuff you need, it remains flexible and is none setting, it can even be used in the wet!
You can get it in a tube format like silicone.
Even more info on the stuff if you have not look at my other link and found out about the stuff.

Cheers all. Got a tube of that 3M stuff ordered and found the holes in the firewall where more water is getting in so I'll report back when I've sealed it!
