Mk1 caddy 1.8 20v.......not starting

Post

 Hi guys….and girls,
First of all this is my first post (so hi every one) but iv been reading the forum for months now, it's been so helpfull.

so the story is my caddy was a 1.6 carb engine but iv been converting it slowly to a 1.8 20v AGU from a mk4 golf gti.

so iv got pretty much most of the conversion done, now it's a home build and not a show piece I must add :-)
but iv come to a frusrating point after all the work and hours iv put in its not starting. :-(

Iv had the loom converted and ecu decoded and I know all the electrical side is working fine (seemingly anyway) the fuel pump is priming and pumping and the car is cranking, iv tested that there is power to the coil packs and there ok and there's an petrol smell coming from the exhaust so I presume injectors are fine and iv also plugged it in to my fault code reader and it's showing no faults that should cause it not to start, iv even replaced the crank speed sensor just incase as i know its a common problem and still it won't start.

iv read every related forum article I can find and still I can't seem to find an answer.

Any advice or suggestions would be  much apriciated

thanks in advance

kieran

check for spark at the plugs, the spark units are prone to fail on the AGU if they arnt adequately cooled (should be bolted to the airbox)

crank sensor failure can also prevent them runnign so check that out too

Ahhh thanks very much for your help jonny,
i didn't realise that these had "ignition amplifiers"……turns out it should be between the two "spare" connectors I had left after connecting the loom up    :$. Haha

When the part turns up next week I'll post if she starts!

I wish I would have put up this post two weeks ago now

 Thanks again
