Project revamp

Right the story goes as follows I bought this car from a member on here in June 10 and done a full bare she'll rest on it. But to cut a long story short I decided to start again last December. The revamp consists of engine swap and full make over inside and out. So this is what I'm starting with. It's a 1981 series 2 GTI

So last summer after I discovered I had a little problem with oil consumption I decided on a transplant and low and behold I found a g60 with small mileage and a stage 4 charger so a deal was struck and I went and got the engine. In the following weekends the engine was checked over all bearings were checked and found to be perfect so it was all painted up and got ready for its new home 


the gearbox also got the same treatment and a nice new coat of gloss black 

So the decision was made one Friday night in early December to take the mk1 off the road. An so The carnage begins happy with my nights progress the g60 was hanging on its mounts  

Not a bad nights work if I say so myself 

The next few evenings were spent sorting out looms and getting everything connected up and working safely and properly. A to landy intercooler was sourced and fitted 
  

Well done on the G60 find, this should be a nice little motor when finished - well it was nice before - but you know what I mean!    

Once this was all together it was time to start looking at the body aspect of things. Now I haven't taken many photos of this since the bodywork started  it was the case of getting at it when ever I had a spare few minutes due to a family bereavement and the birth of our 4 child the project was put on ice for over a month. So once everything settled down I sent some panels for media blasting and it was then I discovered I needed a bonnet so one was sourced panels returned and we're body worked   and here they are in primer  

The shell is now sitting in primer awaiting a good block sanding in preparation for paint

I was a bit worried when I read the title and then saw the first pics which look great.

But now I can see where you going this having read the whole thread and it's impressive, I will follow it with interest!  

Look forward to seeing and hearing this at our Limerick show in a few weeks!
