Just purchased my first Mk1 it's an '83 1.3l and in a very sorry state. Trying to get her running all right and remove all the electrical gremlins… which is quite a few :( So off to the technical part to seek loads of help!

First of all welcome to the Club and secondly welcome to the mad house!

Well you've come to the right place for help as there's more knowledge and experience at this Club regarding the Golf MK1 then at VW.

Two little tips for you, firstly try to to keep your questions as straight forward as possible and with a picture or two where appropriate.
Secondly, if you think your going to need a buy a few parts over time then look at becoming a 'Paid Member'.
For 20 quid a year you'll get good discounts off a whole range of parts suppliers and services even the 'Club Shop' and a whooping big discount from the RAC.
Not only all of the above but you'll gain access to the exclusive 'Members Lounge', so check out the home page for more details.

Finally, please do post up some photos of your Golf as we can't see enough pictures of the MK1.

Thanks for the welcome guys, as for pics she's not much of a looker at all at the moment since the previous owner left the paintwork in primer a couple of years ago. Interior is also… Interesting so as for pictures I'll maybe feel more confident when it's looking a bit more complete!

Oh no you don't, your missing the point here!
You have a project, so start a new post in 'Projects' and create a "build thread" then you have an historical record of how the car develops over time.
Hate to say this but it will increase the overall value (in time)!

looks ok bodywork wise :) if you struggle getting it running you could do a conversion  :offtopic:

the interior complete? thats where stuff starts adding up to buy :(

Perhaps in the future it would benefit a conversion but I've too many project on the go now to consider that

The interior has the majority of the plastic bits up front but missing some bits of trim, and front seats but I've a pair of bucket seats that we're recovered to fit if I fancied them but really I would've preferred a standard interior. One of the previous owners has retrimmed the door cards and fitted a white roof lining… Well nearly fitted so that's needs to be done. I'm going to work with what I have before changing it as I want to get rid of my mk3 tdi and use this as my daily driver.

Interiors are ridiculously expensive  :(
