I messaged this guy a few times when the last listing was on, but assume he went quiet in the end as he couldn't honestly answer my questions. I was fishing about for genuine factory proof that a GTI was painted in that shade of Blue - he insisted it was a 'special' edition.
I doubted the colour as soon as I saw the car, and proceeded to ask some probing and detailed questions, to which I got very defensive replies, which never really satisfied my questions.
Anyway, here's the proof of that really rare original colour…

Seems Red to me!

I don't wish to dispute the value he's placed on it, but find it disappointing to have the wrong seats, headlining and alloys, amongst other things. In terms of what makes a series 1 GTI different from its later brothers, the wheels and seats are fairly unique and visually significant components.

I posted this topic to alert and educate anyone considering purchasing the car in advance of a disappointing realisation at a later point.

The ironic thing is that by spraying it the 'special' colour, it will most likely have devalued it immensely versus its potential value in its original state.
Boggling!

I've also emailed this guy a few times. One time regarding a roof and I led on to tell him "its all over priced parts, and to say you do it for the enthusiasm of mk1's, your rinsing scene tax" the reply I got, "but my boss has sold roofs before so I'm confused"….

Proper numptys at that place, breaking perfectly good mk1's to get profits too.

I have the same washer bottle in my 83GTi, i hate it, it looks like sh*t and is on my list of things to change.

The car on fle bay looks like a "bitza special" if i take a bitza this and a bitza that and get some mug to part with a whole load of money i make a bitza profit.

Mind you i brought a mint rust free tail gate from these people and paid a fortune for it, needless to say when it arrived it was neither mint or rust free and ended up in the dump and me alot of money out of pocket.

I loved the look of that kit on the car too, but after the rust started to show under the kit, I took it off and despite toying with the idea (there was quite a big poll on here and E38) I decided to ditch the BBS kit. Couldn't imagine getting the car reprayed and then for the BBS kit to start trapping dirt and water and it rusting out again lol… Hard enough to keep these cars rust free as it is! I actually sold mine and bought it back 3 years later as I missed it :D
