What did you do to your MK1 today?

got home yesterday….dead battery… no ampage to even jump with ring booster….. . so new battery from halfords…. FOC… almost. due to cashing in my Priority points from the holiday inn… nice bonus..
So battery on later today..

Well I was going to tuck him up in bed for the winter this morning but the weather forecast is staying fine here in Vienna, Austria for the next week. 
So it's a bonus week for me and him (Scrat).



To think it's the begining of November over here, mind you its only making up for a fairly poor summer!

Never realised your car had a red roof, that's a really nice colour combination.

Thanks Richard, it's a good combination and I often get people saying that to me but to be fair that was one of many reasons I bought this one. 

It just looked and felt right!

Wow, thanks Andy Hairyarse that's a real praise indeed when it comes from someone like yourself.  

Don't get me wrong because Richard (thanks mate) started me thinking what a good looking Mk1 I have, you know yourself that sometimes we lose focus on what we have in front of us!
Even if it's just metal and plastic etc…  

The problem is now, when I go to the car in a few minutes I don't think the door aperture is big enough to fit my head in.
So I'll have to drop the top!

Sunday morning....in damp but warm garage..new drivers door lock fitted(another key to add to collection), bonnet release handle fitted(still liked the kitchen fork method) and 2 wolfsburg window winder handles fitted.. bench seat out of the back, and looking to fit a home made parcel shelf, then possibly some wiring of some 20yr old infinity speakers...

I know what you mean though. It's too easy to remember all those little blemishes and faults that you know are there, that no one else sees, but when you stand back and look, you have a bit of a minter on your hands!

Prepping it for a 4600 + km drive across Canada…  Toronto to Vancouver

After experiencing fuel pressure problems for the last month or two in my GT, I replaced the fuel pump, filter, regulator , hard lines and all the rubber pipes, still got to fix a slight fuel sweat on one of the banjo couplings (my own fault, I re-used the crush washers) then go and test it.

Replaced centre exhaust pipe that had fractured just in front of the rear box.


Getting too old to DIY laid on a cold concrete garage floor grappling with rusty nuts so tootled down to a friendly local garage I have discovered and used their ramp and apprentice for an hour or two.


Also replaced some of the gear selector components including the rubber ball relay that had worn itself square. Took a few attempts at getting it set up without reverse being 1st but happy with result. Onwards to 200,000 miles.


On way home discovered the radio (Blaupunkt Frankfurt I think) is as dead as a dodo so that needs fixing next!!!

Spent 3 hours cleaning the Sportline in Spain, had a load of Autoglym products sent over from UK with micro fibre cloths. All looking very smart. Took him for a spin with the hood down to Javea Port for lunch in 24 degrees. Saw 3 other Mk 1 rag tops! Will put him back in the garage tomorrow and tuck him up until Christmas. I have already bought his Christmas prezi's! A hi flow radiator and a set of England Rugby mats (£15) amazing value!!

Sounds good, but isn't it a bit late in the year for that? part of me saying I wish it was me!

That Is a very nice car, I am really liking all the small bumper five doors that are starting to appear recently.
