Wheel choice.

Post

Hi all,

How did you guys decide on which wheels to fit to your golf!!?!

They have to be 15" or 16", require no arch work either, only lowered slightly.

So far I'm down to

ronal turbos 7 x 15" et 28
Audi a8 steels 7 x 16" et42
G60 steels with maybe a 1" band
Lenso or bbs style 7 x 15"
Polished Porsche 928 16"

They all look good hence the problem but I think all of the above will fit without arch mods or too much trouble?

Aside from personal taste, I guess the other point to consider Daz is if you're after only 'show' or you want 'go' to and to make use of the MK1's great handling.

If you like to enjoy a twisty B-Road then personally I'd stick to 15s tops.

Have you got a pic of your car to put up? Will help us give opinion - and I bet we wont help any as we'll probably like all the above on your car!

This may help a little too - http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=how-to_2%2Ftyre-stretch-image_2&kfs103=30

The cars a potential purchase at the moment but it was discussed about buying the car without the wheel which opened this can of worms!

I'll love all the wheels which is why it's difficult.

It has to be more go than show really but I do like the porsche setup which i assume is more show than go?

I think the ronal turbos are a good mix of show and go but I can only find some in 4x100 in Europe.

I've done the banded steels on my t5's and mk1 caddy but this mk1 is a gti so maybe too subtle?

The lenso/bbs style really suits the mk1 but not sure what they are like for go or show?

Oh I don't think banded steels are too subtle. On the right car they can look just perfect!

Maybe get the car and live with it for a while. I had thoughts of changing the wheels on my Corrado as soon as I bought it, but glad I didn't buy straight away as I went off what I first chose.

You may find the same?

So are you definitely buying this car?

If you're only slightly lowering you need 15" or pref smaller. 16" and you need to be running -75mm to pull it off unless the offroad look is your bag.

I'd stick with some 15s. Ronal or Zender Turbos would suit it well, i'd personally go for some HTN Rennsports or some OZ Turbos, a bit different to the usual choices but look amazing on a mk1.

Not keen on the oz turbos wheels tho.

Yeah I agree wheels are very personal but I like all the ones I've listed but each have pro's and cons.

I think when on bbs it has to be slammed to look the best. Where as on steels or turbos you can get away with a little drop.

I may be wrong of course.

I've decided on ronal turbos.

Rimstyle sell them for £499 without tyres, does anyone know any cheaper places??

I have the right sized tyres already that I can swap over but if the deals better with new tyres I'll do that.
