Cat converter in a new engined mk1?

I've been thinking, I am buying a complete running car with an ABF as a donor for my mk1 build this weekend.

Now i'll be keeping the engine for the mk1, possibly the front brakes and thinking about converting the seats/rails to fit the mk1.

Here's the interesting part, and what i was also thinking and wanted to get your guys opinion on.

As a 1983 golf as with my 91 mk2 i used to have it was before cats were on a car as standard and therefore not required for an MOT.

Now the golf i will be putting my 95' ABF engine in is still down and i assume will remain down as an 83' golf C. Will this require a cat for MOT . my thoughts are as the car is old it is before Cat's were required, but as a newer engine does that take over that rule and will it be required.

Being a Revvy DOHC GTI engine on twin weber 45's i want it nice free flowing with a custom stainless exhaust system when i am done but just thinking now how that might work.

Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thats what i wanted to hear.

I didnt know how that worked with Vosa etc.

Would the tax of the vehicle change for a different engine size or is that again on how the car came out the factory?

So many thoughts going through my head haha

The tax band may change, depends what it is now. You should really inform dvla and get the log book changed to the new cc. Should inform insurance company as well, although I know some owners inform neither.

yeah i plan on doing both, dont want all my hard work in 2 years time taken away from me because of some silly paperwork not being right. I'd rather everything in order. =]
