The construction is of washable cotton gauze with up to 35% increased air flow over the paper filter which will ensure maximum power & engine efficiency. It is designed to be fitted as a 'lifetime' filter & supplied pre-oiled ready to fit.
Basically allowing more air to the carb.

I've just read this topic since I can't start my 1457 cabby auto.
It's pierburg auto choke as well. Since the cold weather it will not start. When it did it revved like crazy till warm then OK.
I was thinking of buying a new coil and leads but I think I'll wait till it get's warmer.

Mine starts fine luckily

Its just the first 10 mins if I let it idle it will probably stall. Although if I let it down slowly it will go to 300/400 RPM and then get itself back up to 800/900 by its own steam.
Its on my purchase list for April next year. Got a Canon 40D + 10-22 + 17-55 USM IS to buy yet
