does anyone have pics so we can compare the design of the headers side by side?

Anyone test these headers in terms of gains on a dyno?

Some headers aren't worth it the $$$$

I'm interested because I'm in the market as well.

edit* just did some research:

Are ashley's 4-2-1?

Storm 4-1

The Storm is basically a stainless copy of the Ashley conversion manifold, but better made and with a flexi.  The Ashley your showing there isnt the 16v conversion manifold. Heres my Ashley all wrapped up and ready to go on:

Theres also a supersprint copy floating around on ebay, can't remember whats its called. American made I think, racepower, or something like that.

you can get supersprints for ?200….where from?  Thats VERY cheap for them, theyre well known to be the best option of the aftermarkets.

other option is start searching that haystack for a rocco 16V…

The Supersprint is 4-2-1, it def fits the ABF, its adjustable in length to give the clearance you need:

how much is this sucker and where can I buy one?

Sorry I'm from australia and have no idea of the shops your way.

ALSO, does anyone even know for a fact which is better 4-1 or 4-2-1?

are there underlying principles behind these two designs? i.e one is better for torque another maybe better for peak hp power?

I've read heaps of forums and no one seems to know this…….I don't expect an answer here but I might as well put it out there.

16v manifold

ive just about completed my conversion using the ashleys manifold. i have come across a problem though.  the manifold is to low to pass by the anti roll bar so0 i had to modify the straight section joggling it to fit using a hacksaw and welder and then weld a reducer so that it matches up with the magnex system. ah problems problems

MK1 EXHAUST

Ive  put the 2.0 tall block in my mk1 and  did not have to modify the exhaust at all.  I did however put a thin spacer above the rear mount
to tilt the engine back a bit because the throttle cable was rubbing the
bodywork :D .Hope it goes well for you

mine fits perfectly fine, ive heard some people have had issues, but then you only hear the problems, not the tons of people they work perfectly well for!

Its well known for solid manifolds to crack from engine movement, so i went for uprated front/rear mounts, and a stainless flexi welded into the bottom section.  The storm one hadn't been released at the time, I rememeber chatting to them about it just after I did my conversion (theyre across road from where I work) and they had decided to do the same, infact mines in same place as theirs.

If i was buying new i'd go for storm, its around ?70 more than ashley (around ?190 from RallyDesign) but better made and has the flexi already. I got the ashley second hand and the flexi from a friends old powerflow system ;)

Just for info…have found the other option i mentioned earlier…

Raceland 4-2-1 mk1 16V S/S manifold.  Looks like a virtually identical design to the Supersprint option but no clue about quality.

According to a Mickey Marrows on Ed38 they don't fit the RHD golfs as well as LHD, so assume close to the steering as they all are I thought…

No experiance with them myself, and no idea if Mickey has tried the other options.  I thought they were all going to be close to Steering Rack/ARB anyway…hence need for heat wrapping.

hmm I really like this 4-1 design and I think for good power it's the best design.

Only thing is I have no idea if it'll clear my tall ABF block.

is there a website I can check this one out mate?

You won't get a better picture than that….

Its worth having a search on the Edition38 forums, I'm sure i remember someone buying the storm for a ABF and having a few problems with fitment to ABFs, they dont have any vertical adjustment, but can you get round this by adjusting the link section?

Also worth giving Andy or one of the lads @ Storm a call!
