Excellent work there, and some really useful pics for future reference…

Where did you get the heat wrap for the exhaust from btw?

Rich

thanks, I hope others can benefit from this thread information.

I got my heat wrap from - a guy off flebay called 800BHP - here is one of his auctions - 2290143924051

The car will be going off to Tim shortly for some panel work and then sadly it will be up for sale.

I don't know to be honest, didn't measure it. I didn't use the whole lot and I bought the following spec - 50MM X 1.5MM X 30M, properly got 20% left.

So today was so lovely and hot, I took the cab out for a long drive, all was going well, until I got about 200 yards from my house coming back from my drive and I had some smoke from the engine area, so I pulled over and I could see water was leaking from the top screw of the Plastic hose flange, on end of cylinder head which connects to the heater hose. Now what is weird, this was a new item with new studs in the head and nuts. So a slow drive back to the house to let it cool down.

Has anyone had this before, I'm going to take off the plastic hose flange  off tomorrow and have a look and see what the problem is…

The joy of mk1's  :D

ok, so the plastic flange had a crack in it, so bought a new one and replaced :) all fixed. Then I started the car and the start motor was making a real bad noise, so I turned the car off and took the motor off the car to test. The motor didn't start again with direct power going to it from the battery  :(  so will be researching to find best place to get a replacement one (Bosch of course!).

was the starter making a shreeking noise? Might be dry bearings? I took the end cap off the one on the Sportline and cleaned and lubed it and it stopped the noise for good.

Your car's looking stunning! Are you going to Gaydon?

The motor was completely shot, I managed to get a new one from GSF - Bosch, exchange - same spec as the one on the car  :D , going to put on the car tomorrow, managed to get it just before they closed too!

I hope to go to Gaydon, if all goes well tomorrow, I have found a slight leak on the manifold which is blowing which is doing my head in so going to take off the car and see what I can do… (not a quick job I can tell you) I know I'm going to have fun getting that manifold off with no space.

Well I can say for one, I really enjoyed working on my car this morning, I managed to get my manifold exhaust off with-in 1 hour, even though I had to take off the drivers side, drive shaft and anti roll bar. I'm glad to say that the noise wasn't a crack, but two of the gaskets that go between the manifold and head where broken… lucky I have a load of these in the garage, so a quick clean on the head and manifold ends and I bolted all  back up and its now running lovely and quiet again  :D

So pic showing the new starter motor (Bosch) and nice underneath picture of engine and the manifold back in place.

Just need to clean the car now - a bit too hot at the moment, will do this evening. Hopefully see everyone at the show.

thanks alot…

After Tim has done his magic on a few areas of the car (painting) it will be up for sale..  :(

I'm just working on a completing a webpage to explain the spec and what has been done with pictures. It has to go as I live in USA now and only come back to the UK now and again for work and personal stuff and I've already got another cab stored, so this one has to sell, who ever buys it will get one wicked Cab. Only half the work I've done on this car is shown on this forum.

So I was not a happy person this morning, took some pictures of the car below before leaving for the show. Was just coming up to the M40 Junction on the M25 when the car died on me… :banghead:  bloody battery wasn't charging. After 1 hour wait for AA and then got home to figure it was the battery for sure, no where was open to get a new one. I ended up going down the pub instead with a few mates… then I get a call off my dad to say he has a spare battery if I wanted it, buy this time I'd had a few and that was my day gone..

Will get a new battery tomorrow, then I really will have everything new now under the bonnet.

Some pic's of the car clean..
