Electric windows

How about the Corrado setup? I ve just read in an old Golf magazine that the Corrado electric window setup was used for modifying the mk1 windows.

Although it did not say how much work it was to get it sorted  :? Perhaps more work than wished for :).

You can still buy the Electric Life Window kits for the MK1 Golf new. Not cheap though at something like ?240.00, but it is brand new with all the bits n bobs needed.

Not sure if this is any good to you but there are two brand new golf electric window motors on ebay! Might be worth spending the money rather than hunting down something that may be worn out anyway! Just a thought!! Hope this is some help!....Walt!

Today I?ve bought a used corrado set. Only the stuff inside the door and some wires.

Hopefully they will work :?. And also need to be completed with relays and the buttons. Also the attachement thingy to the window is missing (well one at least).

Price was just about 25 quid so I thought it was worth a test at least.

Anyone got any pictures of how the original mk1 buttons looked like? Hard to get hold of I guess. I will probably go for the mk2 version instead.

I will probably put mine in a console made to fit the ashtray compartment. Otherwise the mk2 centre console is another way which might be under consideration  :dontknow:

Btw the corrado setup is not bolt-on, but not far from. Some pondering about the mounting points but that is just about is.

Hi,

The Mk1 hatch never came with electric windows from the factory - they were a dealer fitted option. Mine came with an 'Electric Life' kit when new. These are proper mechanisms rather than the 'bendy wire' type (technical description there !). The switches look like Mk2 Golf switches and mine were mounted into the base of the centre console (lying 'face up' just in front of the gearstick) - a rubbish location !
I've recently bought a Spal aftermarket 'bendy wire' kit for the Caddy. Haven't fitted it yet - hope it's OK (!)
I wondered if elec mechanisms from a late Cabrio would fit ?

late cabriolet mechanisms do not fit as the mounting points on the mechanisms are totally different. I'm after an electric life kit but im having trouble finding one at the moment. Anyone point me in the right direction? I know you can get them from PCA but thats a last resort.

I believe the only option fo the elec life window kit is PCA, although I am trying to set up something with them at teh moment to allow us to supply their window kits. If I get anywhere then I can let you know. Managed to set something up about 10 years ago, so am just trying to get the same deal again, but its a bit like  :banghead: with some people.

turbtechnicsMK1: if  you do sort something out let me know as i am thinking of purchasing a kit soon and the electric life kits work out at ?200 delivered. I have also seen a similar style kit made by inpro and they are also over ?200. I have seen the kits which attach a motor to the original mechanisms going for ?100 new but i dont thnk they will wrok too well.

Sorry for the late reply guys, but got the deal for Electric Life window kits now sorted.

We can supply a full kit for the MK1 golf (and any other VAG model) and also replacement regulators for the OEM one fitted to the VAG cars.

Prices are as always very good, pm me if you need prices etc.

Quoted myself, and just wanted to mention that I now have Corrado electrical windows in the mk1 (well only the drivers side so far).

The mounting points caused the most work. I re-used the lower one from the original window lever by cutting it off and screwing it on the corrado unit. The upper one mounting point could be solved with a small bolt and a new hole.

It is operated by buttons from a Volvo 940 .. mounted in the ashtray using a custom made buttonholder :).

Need to tidy up the electrical cables and the mounting of the buttons before any pictures will be available ;).

Cheers

Guys your all going about this the wrong way

you all need to read this thread

http://vwcaddyforum.com/showthread.php?t=4896

Sorry but I think you have to register to view it.

Trust me though its worth it at it shows the easiest way on earth to covert your mk1 winders using genuine VAG parts
