Electric Widow Module 191 959 875

Hi all, before you say I know this is in the wrong section but getting peeps to respond from the “ breaking a car section” is really tough. If anyone can help I’m after the electric window module for a 92 Clipper 1.8. There’s some on eBay but there either mega bucks or no one is able to confirm if they work. Been after one for ages. Hope you can help.

Wrong section…… you need the scrap parts section.

There are a few on ebay at minute from 50 to 150 , new from zee-germans is 300 with tax and shipping.

Thanks for the response, but as I said, the ones on eBay the sellers won’t guarantee they are in working order and didn’t really want to fork out that much money for abroad. I can get them re-wired for less than that although I will lose the one shot. Just wanted to keep it original as poss.

I would take care of the other issue prior to putting a new controller in.

What, Other issues?

Well I would ask if you have a/c installed  and a large fresh air plenum?

If the answer is yes, then I would remove the Fresh air inlet and replace the foam seal that is under it and re-install.  

If you don't have that then I would also suggest re-routing the hoses out of the Rain Tray (scuttle) Rubber, and cleaning both rain drains.  

I would also install a screen over your bonnet  air inlets to prevent debris from getting to your rain drains.

And or rust around the windscreen allowing water to drip on to the wires of the controller and into the unit.

From what I have learned over the 14 or 15 years of Cabby ownership I have seen that water migration through plugged rain drains cause water to back up and into your cabin via the air-plenum seal.

If you haven't removed your controller and disassembled the case  from the PCB and look for cold solder joints, and or dirty contacts on the relays you may be want of something that a little work will fix.

AirCon  I bet you can count on fingers of 1 hand how many golf mk1 to mk2 had that installed..

I know the biggest issue I have seen is water migration into the controller, and that is usually plugged rain drains and water infiltration, or  cold solder joints. A/C or not, the cause and effect are the same.

Yeah, mine had the old leak through the bulkhead recently, and the window controller acted up a little. Seems to have done a "Christine" now

Is not 1 of those modules in UK? Only plug and play so take car and try it before part with cash..or use PayPal as you get some comeback or returns

Thanks for the advice guys, although it kinda swerved off topic for a bit ðÿ™^. All other areas have been tested. Wires, motors, switches etc…. No water ingress, in fact I don’t think car has seen any rain in about 10 years. Module has been opened and there’s ( now I’m no electrician so excuse my use of words ) 4 goldy coloured relays in there. 3 of them are clicking with the switches and 1 doesn’t. And when you get responses like this this below from eBayers…..I don’t know what to do. I guess I’m just hoping some one will throw me a bone.


 

replace the duff relay?

It’s a closed module. I need one of these.

If one relay isn't working then look at the soldered connections for it carefully on the PCB

They don't look shiny silver but dull gray with a ring around them usually.





Here is one  on the controller that was de-soldered and cleaned then the relay functioned correctly.

If you have power and ground to the relay but it doesn't pick, then check for continuity on the coil of the relay, and if it is open then the solenoid part of the relay is bad.  If you don't get power to the relay then it is possibly the circuit board issue….

The controller is the Same on a 2 Door Golf up to 95, and or Jetta, and passat.. The 4 door may work, but you would have a couple of extra relays for the rears.

The latter Cabrio 95-2000's have the controller on the motor, and it is a totally different ball game and doesn't cross over.

Well I wasn't off topic, I just gave you all the information that I know of…. Granted the one link on EVERYTHING was 6 pages long… but it was everything I know of….

Seeing as it doesn't work and replacements don't exist I'd be attempting dremeling it open and see if its duff joint or replacable relay

Thanks guys for all your help. Just getting fed up with trying to get my hands on one without breaking the bank. I will check the areas in the picture as I’ve opened the module. The fault has already been diagnosed as the module so will keep an eye out. Apologies if my post looked a bit mardy but I am a male.

It’s just startling to make my wee fizz. Been trying to pick one up for a year without shelling out the mortgage money.

Sit back and think how many hours you think and "waste " talking about something….. the minimum wage in the UK is £ 8.72…  in 4 hours worrying and typing you will have paid for a part If it doesn't work you may have the parts to rectify the other..    

When you take your car for a service…..any car new or old

you are paying  minimum £40 per hour for diagnosis  and then £25 for plug in service reset,or stamp in book.
Specialist refurb shops charge upwards of £70 per hour so you could be looking at a bill for basically diagnosis of faulty module of 160- 280£ before you start, given you said taken the door cards off, window motors /regulators out cleaned and checked function.  Checked wiring to module and motors.
So think to yourself that you've saved 200£ plus by doing the work yourself so spend on a  ebay unit.

As for the ebay comment maybe the seller, can only say came from car that was working…. and as such his/her guarantee can only be was working. If they go find a car with wiring or running and try it for you then i would personally bang price up myself for the hour.  



But take a punt, look at briano123 post,  or go find someone local with vw with electric windows and use the disassembly access knowledge you've acquired to pull out module and try it.. Obviously you have to guarantee you want damage the other users car in the process. Theres plenty of members in each area.. I myself have 3 cars with modules,  you only need to come over and try… ill let you loose on a rocco.

Well done, can you free it off? Note it may of got hot if the motor mech or window was binding or other connections causing high resistance.
