That paint looks great Harvey. It really pays putting all that time and effort in the prep.

What type did you use?

The paint in question is jewl vw alpine white 2k 5ltr of colour and two of hardener.

Although its paint is only as good as the prep, there's a few nibs on the roof to wet and dry out and two sags where it was on a bit thick. Got to say Iam more than happy, knowing how much I paid for the respray on my focus and how much this has cost me I'd say it's at no more that 500 pound, that's all in. Welding wire, gas, gas for heater, disks for grinder, the sanding blocks the paper and pads, the filler, primer, reface primer, underbody sealer, rust cure. Masking tape/paper. It all mounts up.

I could make up a list of what was actually used etc if anyone who's interested in tackeling it on their own wants to know.

Removed the tape and paper this morning and wheeled her out in the day light.

And here's a foto of my old gti in her glory days about 12 years ago! Some old timers on here may remember it

Is that using a non isocyanate hardener?

Will need to check if it was the air dry hardener or not, we had the heater on to take the temp of the garage and shell up to around 20 degrees, for most of the morning then just left it once we were finished, the hardener was omincrom supplied by jewel with the kit. It's going to be left for a few weeks before I do any work on it.

Looking good… great build thread and great attention to detail.
Good to hear you intend to use the car as that's what it's all about.

I'm not a fan of the BBS body kit, I would keep the car standard looking but a little drop in height over the standard does look better.

So I dug the original rear beam out the shed today, not saw light of day for 7 years since it was moved there from my last lock up, so stripped the stubs and brakes off, made a few the repairs as the beam will be going off for powder coating tomorrow.

Reface was easy to sand ect, it's a fair on to clean the gun, it reacted with the standard thinners and went to gunk wen I was finnished and went to clean the gun, can't remeber the chemicals it's made from off the top of my head. It works well tho and does what it's Ment to.

So not much been going on with the golf at all since before Christmas, times been taken up with work, courses, and my folks moving into there new home, bonus for me is I get to use the new garage to store the Mk1 focus Rs. This frees up my own garage to get the golf moved over from my mates, leaves loads of
of room to work on prepping and painting the doors, boot, wings and bonnet. So tonight’s the night to move the shell, just hope the rain holds off a little.

Next week should give some time to start the prep on the rest of the bits needing paint and I will maybe get some new bushes ordered up to get the newly coated under carriage parts fitted. Then it’s new brake pipes etc time. New new new!

Boot, bonnet, wings all back to bare mental and treated to rust converter..
I started stripping the doors today but they seam in very good nick so don't need
much. Just the doors left to prime now and then should be laying on paint this weekend.   D9C7A19F-9935-44C8-A840-CDA4EBCA692A.jpeg

So not much progress, well doesn't feel much… fitted the break servo, the poly bush kit where needed, new coil overs fitted, rear disk had to come back off to grind the axle for the Caliper Carry bolts, fitted the anti roll bar back on… what a job that was.

Had her wheeled out in the sun for a look at the ride hight and to move it into the side of the garage.

Still not sure if I am going to bother with bigger breaks and the whole will it be to much for a light car… and will the peddle feel ok story… I think standard ones will be fitted on front for now and see how it is… I don't remember them being bad but well
That was a lot of years ago and i only had a Corsa Sri brakes to compare it with.

Lot of time has been taken up with working on the r32 mk4… and a juggling a house renovation too… I do like to spread my self thin! 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

Enjoy
