Not having any building skills, I had my old leaky garage flattened and my new garage built Oct, Nov, Dec 2017. The weather was a nightmare, it was either pouring or freezing. That meant, like you, I could enjoy the summer. Happy days

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Right back on it today. Tomorrow will get the roof boards up, window and door fitted and then start thinking about knocking through  :DDoing a bit on Saturday morning and then Monday start to sort out the original part of the garage by removing the roof.

Nice work mate.

I suppose it's one way to work of the extra christmas pounds we all put on due to too much food and drink.

Can't believe how far you've got.

I'm currently clearing out the spare room for you to come and stay for a week to get mine done    , let me know when you're free

Thanks Ian, ha make sure you have some of your fine Cornish ale stocked up ;)I think by the end of next week should have the other section of roof up  :oAs I have the week off Dad wants to make the most of it.

Monday old roof off, remove sloping bricks and cut remaining section
IMG_20181229_123014080.jpg

Tuesday building walls on either sides with wall plates plus new lintel at main garage door end.

Probably rest on Wednesday and to let the walls harden.

Thursday joist hangers and joists, then roof boards on Friday and hope for dry weather to put the rubber on Saturday maybe :)Then I can start thinking about power and drain :DI plan to insulate all surfaces once the interior has dried out a bit.

Dad wasn't happy with the angle of the lintel so we removed it this morning and a lot of the original brick work to sort it out.

Got lots done, temperature pending (the fastening adhesive for the roof needs to be done above a min temperature)  it looks like we may have the rubber roof attached on Saturday! :thumbs:Tomorrow we should have the joists finished, fascia attached and OSB boarding screwed down ;).

Been busy the last 2 days finishing the roof off, unfortunately it's been dark when I finished. When the sun rises I will get out and take some photos :D

The joists and OSB went up on Thursday, Friday we tackled the remaining fascia and got the rubber roof on. :thumbs:Just need to fit the gutter edge. The kit to do the drip edge didn't seem to stick out enough to fit a gutter properly so will have to batten out to give enough clearance.

The rubber roof went down surprisingly well.

I'm really pleased with the internal space. Just needs a bit of finishing and storage space.

I have an insulated electric roller door ordered up to replace the old door.

Next week the drain should be in, gutter up, remaining piers built up to the joists and the middle opened up by cutting the bricks jutting out on either side. Following week should be electrics hopefully ;) IMG_20190105_093518878.jpg IMG_20190105_093539098_HDR.jpg IMG_20190105_093557039_HDR.jpg IMG_20190105_093607871_HDR.jpg IMG_20190105_093622573_HDR.jpg IMG_20190105_093739362.jpg IMG_20190105_093816757.jpg

Yo Rich.  that looks great mate, record time too

Glad to hear the rubber roof is ok, I'll be going for that too for my flat roof bit. Is it easy to do? I've only done the old mineral felt type flat roofs before. I was speaking to 'Rubber roofs 4 U' I think (gotta be careful on the internet with that address I found!  O_o  there's some odd people in the world!) and they seemed quite good. Can i ask who you used?

Also your lintel supplier and your door supplier too please  :P

I really like the colour of the brick too, looks smart.

You gotta be a happy man?

I used https://www.rubber4roofs.co.uk, I think it is the same place you've mentioned. Couldn't rate them highly enough. There is a calculator to work out how much you need and it calculates the trims and adhesives, basically everything you need. I used their classic bond one piece system. The rubber is very tough.

Dad and I almost had a heart attack lifting it on the roof. It came as a bundle on a pallet, dad reckoned it weighed 400lbs for 11m x 5m. There was quite a bit left as due to the staggered nature I had to get wider than necessary.

Very easy to put down. I had dad and brother in law to help out. There are loads of training videos on their website, the bit that is quite difficult is manipulating the sheet and watching you don't fall off the side of the roof with the sheer weight of the sheet. Took about an hour to glue the sheet down and then about the same to tack the trims on.

I used Condell Ltd for the lintels. Very good price and quick delivery. The bricks are IBSTOCK golden multi buff which were meant to match the LBC golden buffs.

There is a bit of a colour difference with the existing bricks as they are over 60 years old so much lighter with lichen and sun exposure and the motar needs to dry as it's quite red at the moment but will go much lighter when it sets. I need to do some final pointing and maybe a touch of brick acid in places but really happy with it overall

Superb, ta for that.

They'll always be a colour difference on the bricks as you say due to age etc. Especially as LBC is no longer around.

At least you weren't trying to match imperial bricks, like we have to fir the old railway viaducts and bridges  O_o  it's a flaming nightmare. We end up having to have them made!

Good to hear the roofing system is reasonably easy. As I'm going to have sky lights it'll be a bit trickier but I'm sure we'll manage. A bit of an idea on the time frame is also good to have. Luckily the weather held for you.
