So after a long wait it’s finally at the blasters, the poor chap had a major backlog. So will be interesting to see what’s left afterward

Good luck, I did mine in a hurry, no blasting just picked at the front panel a bit, it virtually disappeared. After that, the crossmenber, inner wing sections, toe boards, front floors…… About the only thing without rust was the glass and the air in the tyres! :ocf_emoticons__icon_eek:

That sounds bad I’m having the whole front end replaced, it’s only being blasted to see if anything is hidden. At the moment I can source every panel I need apart from front doors, so they are blasting the bottom (as there is visable rust) the make some lower half skins ourselves

Couldn’t get too many pictures of the blasting but here are a few, after a bit of pricing up and phones calls managed to get the panels needed for £1500 inc delivery

Well done! You managed to find something that rots worse than mk1's

Oh well, nothing a welder can't fix.

That's the joy of an Escort, you might be able to hear the munching of the rust mites on a quiet night, but at least you can get all the panels to repair the missing steel.

I know, 20yrs ago, when my son was putting our Mk1 back on the road in time for his 17th birthday (pre ebay type sites) all we could get new for the Mk1 was inner wing fill panels and sills, which we didn't need. The floor was patchworked and we were fortunate to find 2 nos Ford wings hanging on a local garage wall.
When I rebuilt it again 4yrs ago I got front floors, front panel, X member, inner/outer rear arches and boot floor wells all at the touch of a button! It's still on its original sills though.

Car is back in the workshop after a bit of sanding down lots of filler and some extremely awful previous repaires have shown up. Panels tack welded and filled over

It sounds par for the course for a Mk1/2 Escort, the only thing that doesn't rust is the air in the tyres and the glass. Coming from a less strict MOT age, bodges proliferate…..
