small/quick restoration

just got myself another dub to love
not had a mk1 for ages so thought why not?
1300 squid later I had a mk1 cabby in black 1983 vintage now named volkenstein it has so many wrong parts I'm starting to regret buying it.
plus side it has mot and after a few days of tinkering it now runs real good

problems with the engine were as follows :
timing was a mile out fitted new timing belt kit and retimed it .
Dizzy was in the wrong way 180 out sorted that.
Vacuum pipes in wrong places and worn out replaced.
Would now start and run but once warm would not restart .

after checking everything I could think of I googled a few things as it wasn't getting fuel straight away from warm start up
I found that the pressure valve in the fuel pump had seized.
so took it off soaked it for a while then prodded it with a real thin scewy and ping the valve sprang into life again

refitted the valve to the pump and refitted the pump and hey presto the mutha ran from hot and cold cheapest fix ive ever had
having priced up new pumps  and valves ect.. I was well please to not have to buy anything well for now anyway
this cabby is on the tightest of budgets
as I'm a stay home dad with a very understanding wife
little money in the pot but it keeps me sane a few hours in the garage with volkenstein

that's as much as ive found to be wrong at moment and
I guess that's why it was cheap, but to be honest now it drives well Ive been having fun round the country lanes like I'm 20 yrs old again.
ive had 12month driving a 1.9d t4 so this little gti seems to go like a rocket  13838170_10208679655846867_1644149509_o.jpg

If this is an 83-84 model it wouldn't have had the power windows or power roof only post 1990 had these.  Unless someone has added an aftermarket power roof kit and windows. Stock set up involves welding extra bits onto the body. You got any pics of the power roof set up. After market kits always intrigue me.

the windows are original items  but will have been added later as you say although theve been done well
the hood motor looks original again I think the mounts for the motor have been added to it as the welds don't look great but its all vw stuff
it works really good
I wonder if these two items will add to value or decrease it
I don't mind them as they've been done well
although top needs reskinning
