There were about 4 styles of relays. Not all are correct.

The list of correct relays are at www.cabby-info.com

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

What year is your car and what type of fuse box do you have, bullet fuses or blade type fuses?
Where is the fuel pump relay, fitted above the fuse box or in the main fuse box with all the other relays?

My later style fuse box from 1988 cabriolet, blade fuses, relay with no62 is my fuel pump relay.

Haha not boasting..otherwise I'd say 3 running..1 donor…1 in a paint shop what did run and a mk2 16v… and still i dont really have a clue when any will be finished.. glad you identifed the issue..and that you've got a pair of relay coming(1 spare) unless happy with wire bypass . Now just to confirm that everything else is good.

If you car was fitted with a no62 relay there is 1 here on eBay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Audi-Seat-Skoda-relay-No-62-443907385B-443-907-385-B-/272552153569?hash=item3f755fd1e1:m:mdjohYWAXK2cctBoERgLwtg

No62 relay has a rev limiter built into it and is used in later cars.

There was a guide on here some where about what the different relays fit and do.

I've tried a new repo relay and it was rubbish quality and my fuel pump primed every time I turned the ignition on which I did not want so I found a 2nd hand relay and its back to how it was before, no priming.

toasted relay is CE1 fusebox type, mk1/2 83 onwards kjet 8v GTI ones will work. some of them have rev limiters in, some dont. you can go either way, just note that if the relay has a limiter in the rotor arm is plain, if it doesn't have the limiter its the rotor arm which has the rev limiter. so be aware if you have a plain rotor arm and a non-limiter relay then you wont have a limiter any more

2nd one is for the older ceramic fusebox which is why it wont fit.

ok so technically you need a rev limiter relay, if you're worried about that. or you can get a non-limiter relay and change the rotor arm if you prefer

Hello,

Sorry for what might seem like a really silly question!!

My 1990 Mk1 Cabriolet (DX engine code) is currently broken at a local garage. Fuel pump not priming at all I believe, mechanic has traced fault to damage on fuse board following what appears to be a corroded fuse that has spread to the board.

I need a new fuel pump relay fuse but I'm confused as VW Heritage has two types that both fit my car. The relay from the car has come from position "2" and just has the marking of 1902 !

I need to source a new board and new relay but I am unsure on what relay I need please??

My 1988 DX car has never primed the fuel pump before starting as it does not need to…

They can test the fuel pump etc by removing the relay below the fuel pump relay and putting it in the slot for the fuel pump relay then the pump should run as soon as the ignition is switched on.

Other way is get a bit of wire and bridge the 2 bigger connection where the fuel pump relay is then the fuel pump should run even without the key in the car.

Ive got the priming  type.. from mark carter.

Think buy 2 as a spare should always be in your tool kit.

you need the later type fuel relay, some have rev limiter built in and some dont it depends on age of car. if you check the rotor arm if its plain the limiter is in the relay, if it looks funky then its got a rev limiter rotor arm in
