A few people know the plan - I think we've spoken about it a little bit at the AGM if you remember?

Thought I'd put up an update, although it's not much of one really… the weather has been awful in Manchester this 'summer' if you can even call it that, and with the AGM etc, life's just got in the way.

So I've taken the plunge and I'm gonna rent some space in a big unit with some others guys, I'll be moving in the end of this month, I've got enough space for 2 cars and working space around them. I also have a donor car for the rear end, which is a friends, so I'm gonna be breaking it for him (front ender) worked out well really.

I'm also on the hunt for the donor car for the engine, to everyone who asked above, I'm sure you all know I'm going for the 130PD 5spd out of a mk4 golf (or similar) it's just finding one with low enough mileage at the minute!

It's quite sad seeing it sat in the back garden, almost worth next to nothing with all the rust now, makes me want to start bringing him back to his former glory! The AGM has given me a bit of a boot up the backside!

Depends on the year, if it's pre 2004 some come with a 5 speed box, I was told the same about the Passats as well, but I have 2004 5spd highline - think VW just did what they wanted haha

Every golf ive seen with a pd lump is 6, but a quick check on google confirms there are 5 speeds too.
Audis n passats where all 5 unless it was a sport model then it had a 6 speed.

It's actually a mine field mate, because my Passat is classed as a sport and my mates is just a standard model, his is slightly newer then mine and has the 6spd and I have the 5, odd!

Unfortunately Passats have the engines the wrong way around

My best shot is actually a polo gt, but they hold their value well, don't wanna be paying £1k for an engine!

Cheers for the info though

The passat sport with 6 speed arent a good combo, known for clutch issues. I had to replace mine after sitting in an m25 jam

Yep it's been a pain in the a*se, it's gonna cost me now so hopefully that'll make me work on it!

Hopefully not too far away then? I rented a space in Essex for mine (I'm in Kent an hour drive away) it was a right pain to get over to do any work on it.

That said, it was a pleasure to work in a nice big workshop

Nah just down the road really, 5miles or so, around the corner from a euro car parts as well which I guess is a good thing haha?

The McDonald's is more important!

That's a bit of a mission, must have been difficult to have the energy to get over there

Yeah. It was devote a day or don't bother which was a bit of hard to devote a day to.

Still, with a massive fingers crossed, at the start of September I hope to be in a new house with a lovely double garage to set up a proper man cave in*. (Just hoping it all goes through okay)

* Which means I can do more than just lurk on the forum and collect bits, I can actually resume work!!!!

Yeah it'll be nice to be able to just go after work in the evening or just pop down for a few hours at the weekend - it's why I waited so long and found one close because I know I'm lazy haha

Crossing my fingers for you as well then mate!

So the car finally got moved to the unit today, with a friend as well, so as soon as I have everything sorted, I'll be able to properly strip it all down.

First plan is to break the other car so I can get rid of everything and then cut the back off, looks really solid, some small denting in the real panel which I think will come out. Expect some decent progress over the next few weeks!
