Alternator belt size is 950x10 as long as you don't have power steering or air con!

You will find it hard to get just 1 HT lead as most places sell a set, Bosch or Beru are good. Try a motor factors?

Air filter it was a popular mod to drill or remove the bottom plastic part of the housing as it was thought more air would make the car go faster but it just sucks in hot dirty air from the engine bay, you really need to get the bottom part of the air box.

Fuel filter
Euro car parts does sell the one you need.
There is 2 types and you have the bigger later fuel filter the one listed on there web site is for a Digifant fuel injection system no the K-jet.

You may need to unscrew a 17mm extension bolt on the filter as sometimes it comes with one fitted, you will need to renew the washers, 2 are the same size as sump plug washers the other 2 are slightly smaller (I can't remember the size)

Finally found one on ECP, listed under 1984 Mk1 golf!
I think I ordered and fitted this one but I will check when I get home later to day.
It did not come with the washers in the picture which was a little annoying!

that track rod end you mentioned above is actually the one i bought and the thread is wrong on it ??

Oh that's strange???
I checked GSF and that has a M14 x 1.5 inner thread?

I use Febi stuff and I ordered this one for mine a could of months ago but you may have different track rods fitted and that's why they don't fit?

How difficult is it to remove the track rod so to get either correct track Tod or correct end or is there a easy way to measure them so I get correct thread size/pattern

Could you find a bolt the same size and thread as the track rod and take that with you or remove the track rod end and take that along to check?
It is possible to remove the track rod but it is a bit of a fiddle as there is not much room, you also need a thin spanner to hold the track rod while you loosen the locking nut. When the locking nut is turned up the steering rack the track rod unscrews but you must make sure it goes on at the right length, there is measurement in the Haynes manual.

looking at replacing the colloant hoses and there are two sets by looks of things. a coolant hose kit and ancillary kit my question is what the difference what is the ancillary kit????

thank you very much for your above posts managed to sort out and swap my parts i orded wrongly with you help. ecp have now said if i order more parts to order from pre 80 golf as using my reg will be wrong and they even as a apology they swaped the parts with out charging me the extra 30 pounds i would of owed lol

Not done much past few weeks with Christmas and every thing but engine bay looking a little better

Not updated this for while ? I have now replaced all the parts I can that needed doing plus few extra bits it runs nicely but when Rev it it still stalls could this be a dodgy pump. Well it's being trailered to a local garage to be checked over then mot'd. Also thinking about lowering springs what would people suggest. Don't want it to low tho

I think I found the problem why it stalls.  Seems the starter was jammed in causing it to stall after raising the revs and it finally burnt out. So managed to grab a new starter this week so hopefully this will solve it then get it in for mot to see what else exactly need replacing. Noticed more paint damage due to sitting for so long but can't afford respray so will see what happens

Please help fitted new starter and it started first time however if won't stay running any ideas on this please could it be fuel pump?? I was thinking fuel pressure but what regulates the pressure is it the pump or something else

Have you fitted a new fuel filter? It takes ages for it to fill with petrol before the car runs.
Do you hear the fuel pump run?
What else have you done since it was last running?

Yes replaced fuel pump done leads and plugs new belts and yea can hear pump
