You should be fine with the ford item as they used Bosch k-jet in a few of there cars, XR3i, capri fuel injection cars and possibly XR2i, Volvo, Saab and Audi also used k-jet, they may be some other cars as well.

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

I've just realised i never posted my results on this thread!
I ended up getting the Ford Escort XR3i Bosch accumulator, which was spot on and completely solved the starting issue. With that and the new fuel pressure reg the cars been transformed, and i've had about 2000 trouble free miles, which includes the poor thing becoming my commuter vehicle through winter when both my other VW's became unroadworthy.

And whilst i'm here, rather than start a new thread…

Its developed a fault again, it started as a cough when accelerating, very minor and quick, however it has progressed into the engine cutting out on over run, then cutting back in a couple of secs later with a loud backfire.
That to me suggests the fuel system is still working, and the ignition source has died then come back, lighting up the fuel thats unburnt, correct?
Then the last drive i took it on it died on a mini roundabout, and took a lot of cranking for it to burst in to life. Embarassing stuff.
I've visually checked through the distrubutor, coil, leads and wiring, plus i've had the fuse box completely out on to the workbench to properly clean its contacts. The leads, spark plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm were all new 2000 miles ago.

I had a similar problem with my 91 Polo GT last year in which it would die when accelerating, then burst into life after lots of cranking, this ended up being the hall sensor in the dizzy. So i'm leaning towards that, sound right?
And on that note,  this looks correct?

I have a couple of this later type spare but i imagine they wouldn't fit in the dizzy?

its possible the square type will still fit, but you would need to change the plug or the whole spark loom to suit it
