Thanks, I like it on the 165's though. Is the ride not very good on them?

Evening Folks,

Well….the old golf is off the road for a while :'( I spotted a "small" hole in the drivers side sill so decided to investigate and discovered a whole other issue lurking below the underseal :@It also seems the previous owner was a fantastic bodger!!! So from what started as a small hole has gone into a bit of a resto!!

So….dropped the suspension and rear axle then fuel tank etc

:'(Behind the undersell and arch liner….started to cut some of the rot away but found more and more so decided the tub had to come out!!

Tub out !!:ninja: IMG_0731.JPG

Awful to find bodges and rust  :(

But looks like you've grabbed the bull by the horns and are tackling it correctly

Tub Out!

After a few swear words, managed to get the new tub in….:thumbs:IMG_0526 by john stevenson, on Flickr

The fuel filler was looking crusty (forgot to take a before pic) so chopped it out.

I didn't think the axle mounts were looking great so dropped the axle, fuel tank etc and set about it with a grinder!

Was all quite crusty so just got on with it, sorry about the lack of before pics

Chopped it all out and got the new one in place, pretty chuffed to be honest!!

Next up was the rear arch, no before photos…..

So cut the panel for the new arch, lined up and tack welded

Took my time and slowly welded it up..

Still need to grind the welds down but progress at last!! :)

Good work, esp. on that arch. It's brave doing a but weld there I think instead of an overlap - bloody well done!!

Nice work so far

I hate finding rust and holes and corrosion and bodges. I had a similar thing with my rear panel, looked like some angry beavers had been at it!

Any other plans for the resto? Or is it a back to original plan?

Don't worry chap! It's just hard to do well and warping more likely than an overlap joint. Overlap is more prone to rust so you've done it the right way.

I took the cowards way!  :$
