Right well the car arrived from its journey and its a wee peach.
The sunroof area, spare wheel well, arches, under bonnet and slam panel are all immaculate, no rust at all.
All the panels are in very good condition apart from some chipping below the boot lock and around a dozen small rust scabs at the bottom if the doors.
The front bumper is goosed as I knew and the engine needs done serious tlc as it stalls etc, so that's the starting point.
Interior and exterior needs a good deep clean and wheels need refurbed and new tyres.

Couple if daft wee niggles as usual but its in great condition for its age and originality.

Full pack of MOTs, receipts, PDI form, sales receipt and other bits and pieces.

Even a crook lock and roof rack.

Lots of pics

That's my thinking even though I'm no mechanic.

Need to get new neck, poss drop tank etc and clean thru but I will need to read up on what's what :-(

If it's got an original poo-berg carb fitted that could also be a source of issues

Fantastic Chris! Looks a nice genuine buy. This is very much what Gordon was like when we bought it, just small little bits and pieces to bring him up to scratch. And yes we also had the rotten filler neck c/w tank full of crude lol

My old mk1 used to stall, turned out it was bits of rust stuck in the end of the pick up pipe on the sender in the tank, its ment to have a little filter on the end, took the sender out and cleaned it out, back in and ran perfect after so could be worth checking, fairly quick and easy to do

You've got yourself another stunner there Chris. Looking forward to seeing the updates.

Looks very clean on the bodywork mate, nice and straight, like we have talked about on the phone, no rush on it, get filler and tank sorted, blow through lines then get a carb specialist to tune webber up, I am sure it will be perfect when you have finished

Did you get the umbrella free as well?

If so definite bargin!  :)

Not so much of a bargain, lots of bits to sort and the rust on the bottom of the doors and bootlid need addressed.

The full fuel system needs replaced or whatever and thats way above my skills as is the carb.

So money pit number 3  :|

When something is described as rust free and obviously a runner, when it arrives with rust and basically a non-runner, it is a bit of a shock.

So considering my options just now  :(

Nothing wrong with the Pierburg 1B3, if you know what you are doing.

Have the tank and new filler neck re-sealed and good to go.

Chin up Chris, don't rush it and it will all come up as good as new.

It's disappointing that there are some niggles but you've got all that history and that's what's so special about the car.

It looks great from here.  :)

Dont be defeated mate! This is exactly what happened to us! We were told we were purchasing an immaculate example, however the guy failed to mention its rust on the door bottoms, rust on the rear valance, front number plate hanging off, inoprative 1st gear and that it wouldnt run! I never anticipated id have to call out the RAC to a car id just bought and not even moved an inch!

Thankfully we had great encouragement from Rich and Scott from the Bristol region, who even offered to come and help us get him on the move!

Long and short of it, we recieved great support from the club, and now, id never change it for the world!  Treat it as time to bond with it and get to know your new toy, thats what i did. :)
