What is the exact class that the car races in? I am rebuilding a Ex Slick 50 Race car and am not to sure on the engine to use, I do have a scrap Seat Cupra 1.8T but do like the old 8VDclarke said

I built the car to run in what was then the Dunlop Motoring News Saloon car championship, Now the Quaife Motoring news Championship. Did a few years of that then a couple of South East tin tops and in the pictures is from a Heritage Classic Touring Car round in the invite class, managed a third and fourth overall and first on class. Strictly speaking the car shouldn't have been allowed to run being turbo charged but a deal was don win exchange for magazine coverage and so got a place. DMN is really where it's at for the car in my opinion.

My Golf is very much a work in progress, details @ http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?266432-My-Mk1-Project so I was after some ideas and liked the look of your race car. But I think I will stick with an 8v as the car has some racing history.

I've been watching the CGTi thread with interest and yeah, I'd keep it 8v too. It'll keep it more legible for more series too, once I say mine has a turbo it rules it out of 90% of championships. Shame as it means I'm having to start again with another car so I can run in some of the Classic Nurburgring races. That said, for an awesomely quick race car it goes like absolute stink and is pretty reliable too, it's hard to beat.

Yes that's was my way of thinking, so what are you going to do with the 1.8t mk1 then?

Thats a good question, it's only been out twice in the last year but had circa 8k spent on it in that time. Theres another possible PVW feature in the pipeline if things come together. If I get a serious offer in the meantime then I'd probably take it, otherwise I'll mothball it under a cover.

If you are at any events with the car let me know, and I will try to come and have a chat if it's not to far.

Great thread
It's funny, as I'm thinking about swapping out my 8v for a turbo'd engine, as I just use mine on track days, so don't need to worry about engine rules. So tentatively my slick 50 (ish) spec 2.0 8v will be up for sale.

Back in the fold since selling my ex VW Cup Mk1 in 2011 this Mk1 has been pretty much rebuilt and improved since this photo was taken at Brands in 2015 and am looking forward to a full season in CSCC Future Classics and a homage to Richard Lloyds 1978 British Saloon Car Championship winning car - car weighs in at 810 kilos and with 150 bhp should, if it handles like my old one, be competitive. First outing is Snetterton on April 2nd 2017

Mines come along nicely since the above pics too.I had mixed fortunes in the Classic VW cup last season and hoping for better this year. The car has gained some zero and other little goodies.

Have been having fun in the Pre83 Championship with Classic Touring Car Racing Club (CTCRC) over the last few years. Forever edging closer to the Escorts, just need to get reliability up.
