Post

had mine 20 years lol.
I've used flush on every car I've had to be fair, no point putting nice new oil unless its clean.

£21 pounds….. That's expensive…

Try this one and wait for the discount code to get it cheaper…

Euro car parts don't list the right fuel filter under Mk1 golf cabriolet, you need to look at Mk2 golfs, the filter does not come with the washers show in the picture either reuse yours or it's best to get some new ones….

2 are the same size as the sump washers so I use a couple of those.

Size etc here.

The other end is slighly smaller, I usually take 1 to a motor factors and get a couple over the counter. Sometimes the MANN filter does come with 1 of the smaller washers but not always, I guess it's just if it's not fell out of the box….   I’ll see if I can find 1 and get some measurements…

Is the size differance between the old filter and the replacement anything to be concerned about? Haha 20180508_153257.jpg 20180508_153337.jpg

Well IIRC they should of used a bigger filter, as it appears that the smaller one was an after thought.

IIRC the new larger one is the correct type. I would only be concerned with moving the hoses so be careful and do it when they are warm and bend easier.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks bri. Well if the car was manufactured with that size filter I'm sure I can make the pipework fit. As for warming them up I cannot get the car to run for the time taken to warm anything up lol

Just found a prestine rivage engine bay and it does have this bigger filter so that's good. Could this smaller filter on now be causing or contributing to my fueling problems do you think Brian?

No early cars were fitted with the smaller filter (pre 1984 ish) so it won't make any difference to the running.

You can buy a smaller filter if you wish but they are more expensive and harder to find, who ever fitted the smaller filter bought the wrong one.

There is a spacer on the smaller filter so it will be the same length as the bigger one, you don't need the spacer on the new filter, screw the 2 fuel pipes straight into the filter and you will need to find a bigger jubilee clip to hold it in place.

Great mark thanks yeh I see the spacer. I'm sure the car didn't come off the production line with a jubilee clip on it haha what's holding your filter in?

If you look at page 1 of this thread I've got the same strap, it's just like a big jubilee clip.  :lol:Did you manage to find find some new washers? Sorry I was going to get the size for you but forgot at the weekend. I can get the size later this week if you still need it?

I got 4 of the washers from the link you sent will keep spares for when I do the oil again (soon) and obv didn't get the smaller ones didn't want to be just buying stuff in hope they fit and don't (expensive habit of mine haha) so was just guna reuse the old ones or run to the spares shop when I have them in my hand whilst taking old one out and replace like for like 👍
