No idea but i had both 02J and 02A, looked at the gearing and the 02J will hit almost 70 in second unlike the 02A just about 60 at 7k rpm but the the 02J was almost flat out at 135 mph and the G60 box was 168 mph at 7k in 5th.
G60 box is the way togo if you want lower rpm to speed..
02J with 100mm cups are only from the very early 20v mk4 golfs, not sure on other models if any…

I will update the post once it's fitted will be a while yet as the car is stripped ready for painting in January

the later mk4 boxes have an improved shifter setup over the 02j and early mk4 02j you can convert an older box by sweappign the shifter tower as well as the gear shifter box and cables. if the mk4 cables are too long polo and seat have shorter ones which may help but again you need the right shifter and cable setup to match the tower on the box

I can confirm that in the wet at 6000 rpm it is very exiting! For some reason the speedo has decided to not work since the dash and gearbox swap.
I was hoping to put the newer shifter/selector in as well yesterday but have some parts missing, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
The Audi short shifter is on my list to buy but the ones I'm looking at online are just the big cast metal piece with the pins to go in the ends of the newer shifter but it looks like I need a bracket of some sort?

the tower you mention is the right one, but ask audi sometimes they are cheaper than ebay
there are 2 types of 'late' 02j tower as well, early-late and late-late. early-late have ball end cables, late-late its pin end like what you have,. if its an early-late you have you can still use it, either put the early end on your cables or swap the linkage piece the cable attaches to match your late-late ends. the cables and gearstick are the same either way

yes to convert early 02j to later 02j you need part 1-8 off a donor car in scrappy. plenty of mk4 in there to rob oen from its not specific to the 20v most of the 4 cylinder mk4 use a variant of the 02a/j. just ignore the really poverty spec with 020 type box or luxury spec with 02m 6 speed
the tt shifter ou need is for 5 speed 2wd models only, part number 8N0711051, 8N0711046 or 8N0711051A. this type:
