'Monkeys RS Turbo

So the plan was to fit the standard wheels on but a friend of mine offered me some Flat face Compomotives with brand new Toyos at a price I couldn't refuse, day trip to Swindon and picked these bad boys up, came out pretty decent after polishing and waxing!

Tried some megiuars wax, forget the wheel outside the garage, started raining so I took an obligatory beading shot

Just got an approximate customs quote, £350 to get them through the port! That's before I start adding things like the FMIC, cylinder head and interior parts. Will probs end up being 600 odd

For a grand I can get them bloody thing shipped here, fit all the parts and ship it back

Rapidly running out of space but for £80 who could say no to a mint full 90 spec Recaro interior? One  has a snapped seat pan but the chap gave me another one off a spare seat. Gave them a quick scrub and they came up well, just need to stick the carpet cleaner on the front seats tomorrow as I did the rears and the water came out black!

I know I should have 80 specs fitted to mine but I couldnt find a decent set anywhere and for the price I couldn't refuse.

All that's left is a final scrub and to get absolutely butt raped at customs when they want £200 to get it through

Oh and I also picked up a brand new Genuine Ford master cylinder, brake servo and Piper vernier pulley whilst I was there, Need to retard the timing a tad as the cam won't make power till 4.5k on a standard pulley.

Oh and the master cylinder was needed because it had a small tendency to leak all the brake fluid out and then you had no brakes. Brilliant safety feature that.

Managed to snap up some 4 pot calipers off an RS500 Sierra Cosworth at the market today for a steal. Brand new pads and calipers have been rebuilt. Gave them a coat in enamel black.

Original plan was to get some mk3 mondeo calipers and Focus ST170 discs as they are bolt on but I think these will prove better in the long run. Need to get some custom lines made up for these and 4mm shaved off the caliper, will snap some pics in the morning

Brake lines should be ready soon, just need to order some discs and find a machining company.

Thought i'd see how nice the brakes look behind the wheels

I also picked up some fabulously 90s chavtastic Morettes for a bargain, they were in a right state and had been painted with an oil based paint which was peeling off.

This is only the 3rd time i've used a proper paint gun, but after getting the pressure dialled in properly on the compressor it came out well. Only thing is there was some black paint in the gun from years ago and only the final lacquer coat it spat a bit of black paint onto it :P

After 2 coats of rosso red

Lacquered, waiting to be polished

Off to Cyprus next month, finally got my spare ECU fixed.

Need to get the wheels shipped off this month. Fitting the intercooler too.

Pics soon  ;)

Wheels are going on the ship this week, with any luck I can get them straight into the warehouse before tax  :ninja:  :ninja:
Started packing my bags, underwear is being taped and attached to a string and then stuck in the intercooler so I can save some space in the suitcase

Got a new actuator for it as well as the original item was too weak to run anything past a bar as it would just open due to the force on the wastegate by the gases. Chip should allow the turbo to boost to 18psi holding 15psi to redline, with a 22psi cut off. Still running the anal valve too so it will retard ignition and cut boost as per factory if any det occurs, also have a hidden switch fitted to it to cut the boost down for when my cousins decide to drive it. Will be useful in the wet too I imagine.

Big update in 3 weeks

Been doing a fair bit of work to the RS over the Xmas holidays! Stuck in a gallon of fuel and a freshly charged battery and it fired up straight away.

Gave it a good wash and wax. 18 months of crud was on there but it's nice and dry. My £80 paint job has lasted nearly 5 years now and not a spot of rust to be found :D

Ditched the wonky old 88 spec rear decal as it was annoying me being at an angle, fitted a 90 spec one instead, I've got the spoiler to go with it and complete the exterior waiting to be shipped.

My gauges were all over the place so went for a burton power gauge holder. Blocked the centre blowers up and ran the wires for the lighting from the old heater panel. Fitted my wideband gauge, manifold pressure gauge and compressor pressure so I can work out my pressure drop and if there are any air leaks between the turbo and manifold. Got rid of some unwanted wiring and also fitted my serial port to connect my wideband sensor up to a laptop for data logging. Still need to get oil temp, pressure and voltage but that's for another time.

Also fitted my 2 stage boost switch. Bypassed the original ECU wires to the boost solenoid and ran a switched live off the ignition and ground off the metering unit. Let's me run around 16psi on high and around 9 on low boost. I've also got a mechanical boost controller set at 9psi on the wastegate which eliminates wastegate creep to get rid of some of that lag. Had a play with the nylon bushes in the solenoid so the turbo kicks in harder than standard.
My AFRs are around 12:1 on high boost with around 13:7-14:1 on idle. Took a while to get it all dialled in but that's one of the joys of mechanical fuel injection I guess.

Can't give exact figures as I don't have access to a dyno but with the current mods I'd say around 180-90 on 16psi and around 130 on 7 psi (same as a stock RS but the car runs rich on low boost). With the GRS cooler and new head and cam I should be able to hit 220 which is enough for me.

Gave it a minor service too- new K&N filter, oil and filter and plugs. Turbo sounds lovely with the filter on!

Got my wheels shipped over when I was back home, arrived here on Monday and they came on Tuesday. Drove it once on the knackered old 175 tyres and it was downright dangerous. 1st 2nd 3rd booting it would just result in wheelspin! 205/45 Toyo Proxes T1Rs made a world of difference to the handling of the car.
Fitted 3mm shims to the back to bring them out a bit and steering isn't as heavy as I thought it would be. Car  needs lowering an inch to really suit the wheels but that's going to bring a whole load more problems as the roads in cyprus are awful and the exhaust sits very low.

Bodywork wise haven't done much, a few tasteful(ish) stickers here and there. Not sure how tasteful ebolaring is but its discreet
Bonnet wasn't lining up at the front, had to bend it slightly in the end to have it rest on the bump stops.

Need to get some new indicators for the front as these are cracked, some red/smoked rear lights and a new bumper when I get the chance.
Still got my new master cylinder to fit and that's it before I fly back home for New Years. Intercooler, rad, fans and my 4 pot calipers are getting fitted in the summer.

That's looking great - love the Comps on the car too

I've always wanted an RS, a mate had one back in the day and it always amazed me how flat it was in the twisty stuff - and the kick in the back when you booted it!

Oh and the paint job - must have been the best £80 you've ever spent!!

Cheers buddy, car actually handles surpingisly well for standard suspension, and now it can put the power down it gives you a nice big push into the seat when the turbo spools up. Gearbox is starting to die though, whining in 3rd and gears are hard to select   :ninja:
