brad mole's mk1 golf project

thanks, its barely gonna be seen anyway and will get dirty asd hell, but i dont mind, i done the last bit of the main headlining yesterday, gonna put the A pillar trims on tommorow then get the windows in, not bothering with B and C pillar trims. it wasnt too bad once i started going, i just wanted to leave plenty time before moving onto the next bit to glue, so ended up taking about 2 weeks instead of 1 day lol

well today was both good and bad

good points:
- finished the headlining
- windows in
- fuel filler neck on
- more panels painted

bad points:
- trail fit of seats on subframes didnt go well, needs a big change as they sit too high
- A pillar trims didnt want to stick properly
- Headlining sagged a bit and creased a little when we put the windows in, nothing major
- windows are scratched and look a bit pants
- cracked my all red lights fitting them

but overall i got the important stuff done which im happy about

bought another bonnet

started assembling my bumpers up

mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

as i intended on getting small bumpers, i got the bumper bracket holes welded up, then realised i wont have the money for them just yet, so my next plan was to just run the bumper irons and paint them satin black, but then i had a new idea…

original bumpers

choppy choppy

budget small bumpers

yeah they arent great, but they will do for now, god knows how they will look on the car, but we will have to wait and see

Cracking job there, very impressive.

Could I ask where you get most of your parts from - the MK1 specific bits that is.

Looking forward to seeing the finished article.

most of the engine parts were from GSF, most of them are pretty decent quality

started on some wiring

brad moles mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

doorcards cleaned up and fitted

brad moles mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

oh and a pic of the finished headlining, the reason my project has been so slow lately, but its finally done, a few creases but it was going to happen, i dont think it would be possible to refit one without creasing, total nightmare

brad moles mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

need some thicker self tappers for the mirrors, also managed to get the door windows in, what a ballache, never again am i removing those windows

i really hope so, but i doubt it if im honest, theres a massive list of things to do still, it is doable, but i will need plenty favours from people and no one seems to be doing favours for me, just things like fuel lines, brake lines, timing belt, wiring, once those are done i will be flying

picked up a few pieces today, ABF dizzy, and a belt as the other one i ordered was wrong, im still not certain this is the right one, its the same length as the original, but has bigger teeth and is a slightly wider belt

mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

and got a few bits together to sort out the terrible loom

mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

im also getting a fan made up for the radiator so that should be ready next week, but my favourite bit, put the new black rocker cover on, with stainless nuts and put my intake in place for the money shot! if only i could keep it this simple and tidy :(
