hi, quick update taxed it today , excellent, went to get it out the garage and its running as rough as. feels like its running on 3 cyclinders or something as there is no power and does nt sound right any ideas??

 

hi, bit of an update

completed the interior today which is looking good apart from the rat chewed seat grrrrrr! but hey aprt from that looking good. give it a clean today and took it home and then out for a run of approx 35 miles. the drive had ups and downs although i did pretty much smile all the way!!

first issue: got an intermitent misfire in the lower revs sounds like a lead breakdown or need some new plugs.

second issue: SMOKE! usually on start up and getting it while driving now should i be right to worry as the rings seeemed fine when i put new stem seals and head gasket on but not sure what else it could be. i will do a compression test tomorrow and hope the rings are ok.

third issue: struggling to start and also quite a strong smell of petrol.


apart from those i enjoyed the experience of mk1 driving as i've not had much driving in any mk1.

hi, quick update really feel like i've sort of gone backwards as i went into work this morning at 6 at took of the head of the car and and stripped it ready to be dropped off at the machine shop for new valve guides in the hope of solving a smoke issue i seem to have. while the head is off i decided it might be an idea to change the piston ring's and big end bearing's at the same time. so during the day i removed the piston's and i'am now awaiting the new parts to get it put back together ready for a nice steady ddrive to the gathering on sunday

Looking good, it's like all good projects you get one thing sorted and then it throws something else at you to do. Love it really, keeps you busy :wink:

Been using the car a while, a few things have changed like standard interior, porsche d90's oh and one accident lol but now all change again!!

Dropped on my drive yesterday wasan Audi A3 1.8t !!!  So oem engine bay coming with the 20v so thought i d start up the thread again
Will be doing this on a tight budget !!! First parts arrived the other day and it was a Merc Sprinter intercooler as we fitted one last year to a G60 Mk1 and it fits very nice and snug as they are big !!!

So i will be breaking this A3 if anyone has one and wants some parts. Its silver with red sport interior.

Will keep updating as and when.

The A3 has landed and i'm very pleased with it ! 102,000 miles and even come with the service book, full history and last done at 98,000! Runs great  so will not need alot of work just general strip and clean

bit of an update

got a few bits and pieces to aid with the conversion.

qpeng downpipe bought of here from darren
large intercooler from a sprinter/transporter
boost pipes
a load of genuine gaskets ie
head gasket
head bolts
rocker cover gasket
inlet gasket
exhaust gasket
sump sealer
oil filter

still on order from VW
oil strainer
turbo gaskets (exhaust, oil and water washers)
oil filter housing gasket
throttle body gasket

engine has been stripped down checked and painted


































be doing a bit of building on it tomorrow well if i fix the golf early enough !!

are you fiddling with the gearbox internals or just having a look in?

not just took the end case off to paint it .....i dont get messing in gearboxes to many bits in there lol
