Great thanks very much guys. I managed to work most of it out yesterday got it turning over on the ignition, then struggled for a spark. Sorted that. Then managed to break the plastic fuel rail putting the pipe on. So jobs come to a stop for now until new one arrives. The last thing I'm struggling with is which plug feeds the fuel pump?

Plastic parts on these guy's are getting brittle, and I would tell you flat out to cut hoses off rather than pulling….

Aside note:  Read my I hate plastic parts thread, as you can get rid of the front and side flanges for the water outlet, along with the butt-to-butt heater core hose, and save your self a time bomb and loos of coolant in the future… Before I came up with a fix, I had to replace the flanges about once a year…

I still hate plastic parts, but thanks Tolusina. | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

you can get kjet relays with and without a limiter, but finding genuine versions these days not easy and lots of cheap pattern parts out there which fail prematurely.

digifant relays are easy and cheap to get, used right up to mk4 golf era. no built in rev limiter on theses, instead the ecu takes care of it

so if you do get a kjet one ideally get one without a limiter

Hopefully one last question guys, will it be the red/yellow wire or the yellow/red? Both go from fuse board heading to the relay. If you know which pin it is it would be a great help, then I'm guessing I splice into that wire?  I took a pin out of an old loom for E-14 so that part is done properly.

red/yellow from the ecu goes to D/13, and is your fuel relay trigger. also fuel pump power is usually red/yellow do E/14.

yellow/red is coolant temp sensor to D/29
