02A cablechange set-up

Howdy folks, I'm using the cablechange set-up from a g60 corrado in my golf 1.I want to fit the centre consul I have but it wont fit over this set-up . What else can I use so I can fit the consul? Audi A3 I've heard ? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I have an O2J setup in mine, cut a bigger hole in the floor to sink it deeper. The standard mk1 centre console then fits

Yea, they run under the car and then over the top of the steering rack in to the bay

how does the 02j compare to the corrado set-up as regards the length of the cables .are they shorter? What model/year car are they from? also are they the new type ends that fit the gearchange tower? Thanks again

I use Lupo GTI cables - perfect length for the mk1

cheers mate ,when you say lupo gti cables ,do you mean complete cablechange set-up from a lupo or cables from lupo gti onto some other shifter? Just making sure. Thanks.

I have a mk4 Golf GTI shifter and tower.

cool ,just havin a look for lupo gti here in ireland and theres nothing to look at .And they fit well under the car ,just making sure.

You can use 2003 Ibiza or Polo setup too-the shifter base is thin enough to fit under the car and you don't have to open the hole in the tunnel. And the cables are spot on for length running under the car and up behind the steering rack. Have a look on my build thread. You'll need an 02J tower too but that makes for a much nicer change.

cheers Mike, what engines am i looking for with the ibiza and polo?

Mine are part number 6Q0 711 049, mk4 Ibiza/9N Polo. I think mine are from a 1.2 Ibiza.
You also need the cable support bracket 1J0 711 781 C which is available new from dealers for about £15.

Before you go down this route, there is a rod change conversion that can be used with the 02A gearbox and original gearstick, but it only works if you have an O2A gearbox with the smaller diff housing.  I bought the kit but it didn't work with mine is my gearbox is a CDA or DPA code that have a massive diff housing that gets in the way.

Might be worth a look, and you can have mine for £50 posted if you want it, new and unused with instructions. It's made by Claus von Essen

Audi A3 fits in the tunnel and has the right length cables.
