its been a while since I was here and so better get some updates in!! car has been freshly MOt'd for 2012 straight through no advisories and it is due in the local VW specialists later in April to have the following work carried out 02J conversion, Alloy top mounts (with built in negative camber) ,seam welded lower wishbones,custom front A/R/B and Brake bias pedal box all fitted.

Good to see so progress again  dash suits it well ,seeing you are fitting a pedal box does this mean the autocavan cross linkage will be up for sale ? Pm if it is thanks

No going to mount bias box in place of servo on the linkage ,if I do change my mind and bolt directly will let you know

thanks its a long process but still fun!

So in the 1st day in the garage, the 020 gearbox,clutch,flywheel, brake servo,master cylinder,brake bias valves,remote servo all came out and lightened ,balanced flywheel ,black daiamond clutch,02J gearbox, brake bias box all went in 8O

getting very close to finishing now ,finally tracked down some 100mm bolt in 02J gearbox/driveshaft cups yesterday so shafts can all go back on and finish front end off.

Custom A/R/B has some chassis work to do to make them a good fit ,and still sourcing gear cables/shift tower parts but hoping to tax for June?

So a few more weeks rush by and we are 90-95% there all gearbox/clutch etc complete. We had to do a liitle cut,shut and reweld on the Autocavan servo mount to angle the brake bias valves away from the 16v Distributor, these now have two lovely remote reservoirs mounted to the inner wing with the header tank moved further to the front next to the washer bottle.

Solid alloy top mounts fitted required a little rework off the inner wings but all in now with a little bit of neg camber.

Mk4 gear linkage fitted with new cable ends from TPS for £22.21 inc Vat and finally the ex-reeves custom A/R/B to go on today after a little bit of under floor modification.Will get pic's up once bay is all tidy and clean

Well still fettling all the little details but we are getting there and hoping to tax in july and use this summer if sun ever makes an appearence!

Beginning to take the view as the weather is so crappy that this will not be on the road this year so will fit my stainless tank straps and get my new rear camber shims on as well then take car for corner weighting and full tacking set up. Running the new stainless fuel lines through car as well.

Its driving up and down the block and turning on full lock no problems atm service/cambelt to complete and then we are about there

Jim has also installed new hard copper piping fuel line through internal of car instead of rubber hose thats keeps failing,new coilover springs dropped off yesterday service is complete and just had a call to say its ready for collection!!!

Picked the car up on Tuesday it is transformed!! it really used to feel nervous on the road with road camber changes etc now it feels so steady and planted ,gearbox and shifter is 100% and very positive feel to it. New brakes are superb with no servo a bit more pressure required but have a great feel and once warm are nigh on unbeatable!!

Got a fuelling issue now which I am hoping is just dirt in the carbs ,soon as I get into 5th with full throttle application car starts to splutter and run badly.Switch off wait 30 secs all good again?? like I said hoping its just dirty filters restricting fuel flow

Drove the car for the last time this year last night cured the fuelling it would appear ,all tucked up in its garage till April 2013 now

So spent yesterday at the Beaulieu International Autojumble with my dad looking for Porsche 944 calipers for the Golf when I thought hello what's that hiding over there




turns out to be a nigh mint Kamei front spoiler £20 I thank you ,bloke had loads of Kamei stuff on the stall all really cheap compared to the scene priced stuff I was very very tempted to take the lot ,had a front spoiler (urethane) with spots a rear spoiler with built in brake lights ,lots of normal rear spoilers hood scoop etc apparentlly Belgium is unaware of scene tax!!

So the tiny crack at the top edge all super-glued nicely back to gether and now spoiler all flatted down ready for paint, when I removed the "period" decals found the original Kamei sticker underneath so going to very carefully mask that out . Was going to paint last weekend but weather was not ideal for outside spraying!!

going to have to modify the ends a fair bit as they interfere with the arches and thinking of moulding a front splitter to the bottom to help stiffen it all up a little?

I remember following this build years ago when it first started, nice to see it develop
