ok here is the story with my car.

I've been having loads of trouble with the garage that i have taken my car to. don't want to name them yet because i have given them one more chance to redeem themselves.
i feel that they have taken way too long and they really have taken the p*ss. people tell me my problem is "i'm too nice and people take advantage of my good nature".
if i had known it would have taken this long, i'd have done it myself like many of the fine chaps have on this site.
mucho respecto to all of you for doing it yourself.
i feel i have missed out on the satisfaction of doing it. they told me it would be no more than 3 months.
i took my car there for the winter because i don't get a chance to work on it as i do stupid hours for 5 months of the year and i was told they were good.
to be honest i think he has done a good job and it will come with a guarantee but he has told me many porkys along the way, wasted a lot of my time, money and made me look a fool by not having it ready for U.D. even though he said it would be right up until the Saturday before show.
15 months after dropping off the car and most of the bits needed and it is still not done. i missed every show last year and a few this year.
it is my first car. i bought it when i was 17 and has been my daily for 9 years.
when this winter started i was forced to buy another car because they had my only one(i love this car too now).
funding a build like this, running a 2n'd car and paying everything else is stressing me out. my hair is going grey!
i'll get through it though and i cant wait to get it back. just need to release some steam by telling you lot my troubles.

after hearing good news the other day, only to find out it was b*llox made me so mad! i went up to the garage today and flipped out. i have never been so angry.
i was shaking and came so close to smashing heads in.
so after some shouting and pushing of an apprentice(he pushed me first and tried to steal the carbon bits from the middle of the steering wheel),
i took all my stuff and loaded my car up. he would not give me my keys because there is money outstanding on the bill.
i said i won't pay the rest till the job is done. we have come to an agreement now.

they promised me, if it is not done by the end of this weekend, they will halve the bill. there were witnesses and we shook on it.
seeing as i have paid more than half already, i thought i'd give them this one last chance. i just want it out of there, finished and off to paint.

i'm not doing too badly really because they have done a lot of stuff and not charged for it.
i have spent a lot less than if i'd have bought a new car. this is way better than any new car in my eyes anyway.

I can not wait until it is all over and i am driving it about. i can't wait for all the shows, meeting everyone in person and looking at everyone else's cars.
i'm tired of being patient. i'm tired of these long working hours. i just want to get on with my life and put some miles on the clock.

roll on summer!

rant over. i feel better for that.  thanks for reading.

Rich

some pics from today;

(my santana in the background)

i need to set the coilovers up properly as they are all over the place in terms of ride height at the moment. i need different tyres too. some with a little stretch.
and i need to space the rear wheels out to match the front too. i'll wait until it is back from paint first though :)

Bloody hell mate, didn't a) realise you had done quite so much, including the bay and b) quite how long it's been away, I know i've not seen it about much but didn't realise it was that long!

I've called Frankie probably 10 times recently and no answer. I would have given up usually but he has done a top job on yours and its so close… I just need it booked in somewhere as I want to use it for the wedding in may.

Loving the look of the g60 wheels, i've been on the lookout for a few months now for a pair so I can get rid of the Fox alloys I have at the moment.

Rich, i feel your pain. I was told a job would take 3 months, and it took over 2 years. I wasn't happy with the end result, so have parked the car up, started another one and will hopefully go back to it at a later point. Pleased your seeing this one through though, as it really is a nice mk1 and will be an excellent car when finished.  Your carbon work is very impressive too.  Try not to take the garage episode personally and i hope it all goes well going forward.  Sean

Alex. dont give up. frankie is flat out at the moment so it is hard to get a response from him. best bet is to pop by and have a chat.

Sean. thanks for your kind words of re-assurance. made me feel better. it sucks getting mucked about doesn't it? i hope you get your car sorted.

i spoke to the garage man today and he didn't manage to get the car finished so he has agreed to halve the bill like he said he would :)  this is some good news at least. i hope he keeps his word. i'd really just like the car back to be honest though.

What else does the guy do that means its a year and a half to finish?? Crazy, just gotta hope its good work. Id be tempted to just go and get the car and pay him for any parts and then walk.

Went and had a chat to Frankie today, took up the latest pics, and hopefully he's gonna pop down and look at the car and price it up. Only then will I know if I can afford to get it done :D

i really don't know what has taken him so long. they keep coming up with excuses. i can tell that they are lies though. i'd much rather they tell me straight.
everyone keeps asking me where my golf is and why it is taking so long. i can't give anyone a proper answer because i just don't know.

Well today i fitted my carbon fibre cam cover. I also took out the old heater filter box thingy because it was tatty and gave it a spruicing up at work.

i chopped out the mesh bits as they had become damaged and i got some metal mesh that we use on the red bull nose cone air hole and made new mesh bits, then i sprayed the whole thing black and fitted it to the car. i think it looks loads tidier with a black one.

i also made a carbon rad top cover thingy and a little cap for the end of the master cylinder.

anyway, here are some pics of it;

im so happy with it at the moment. i love the noise so much! needs an oil swap now.
