So the time has come to pull Dudley off the road for a full rebuild, it's been a long time coming, considering it was always meant to be a project (I don't actually like red cars) and I bought him back on 25th May 2007!

He's been an amazing car and I've done over 50,000 miles in him, even though he was off the road (for around 3 1/2 years) while I lived in London.

Anyway I'm excited, scared and sad all the the same time, it's gonna be a steep learning curve as this is my first project, and it's not gonna be the easiest!

I reckon it's gonna take me 2 years and cost an arm and a leg - but it'll be worth it to keep the car forever.

Here's a photo from last night when we went on our final drive for a while, had to give him a little cuddle.

I'll be good and keep this updated, but you can also follow the hashtag #DudleywantstheD on Instagram

Weird story, I thought I was actually buying a sportline. So it came exactly like you see it, apart from it had the sportline grill - wasn't until I posted on here and people saw the number plate and told me - in hindsight I rushed into buying it as I was young (22) naive and excited - however it's my first mk1 and I believe it's solid (time will tell) so it'll be mine forever!

So I went and picked the car up from the unit yesterday, was the first time that I've ever towed anything (and on an a frame), but also only having driven the Passat for two weeks, was a bit sketchy, but got back in one piece!

Started stripping all the bits off the engine, only thing that's left on now are the drive shafts and the engine mounts, waiting for my mate to wake up to go and grab the crane and then it's engine out time!

But first I'm off to get bacon cause we went out last night and I feel a bit poorly!

Had a pretty busy Sunday, stripped the rest of the stuff attached to the engine, lifted the car up, did the shafts - then went and picked up an engine crane and my buddy Loz and pulled the sucker out - only real pain was when I kept fouling on things, stupid bolt on the far right gearbox mount, the master cylinder and the horn. Other than that it went pretty well.

Had a busy Monday as well, Walter or beaner (yep that Walter!) came and picked the engine up - Dudleys heart is gonna be in a rally car!

Dropped the crane off tonight, figured I'll need it a few more times before its over, chap said I can borrow it any time -score.

So next on the agenda, seats coming out this week and the body kit coming off, all coming with me to UD where they will be collected, that's going to fund the motor I need for the donor. Once I got that it's gonna be hair pulling out (and wires) to strip everything not needed and transplant into the MK1. I'll try and fit some welding in between then, if it needs any, proper clutch repair is currently on the list

But full steam ahead from now on, while the weather is alright

Some piccies..

Should have dropped it out the bottom ;)

What are your plans then Si? Sounds like your going away from the Sportline look?

Don't forget there's a website that needs finishing!  :'(

Haha yeah wasn't sure which was best, only took about 30mins once everything was undone.

Yeah complete opposite from the sportline and quite far from standard to be honest - but won't be doing any chopping of the body!

I'm doing the website stuff now actually!! Another thing to tick off the list!

Last few days I've stripped down and cleaned the Sportline interior, it's been sold so car is almost bare apart from carpets and dash now.

Body kit is coming off tonight as that's sold as well.

Starting to not look much like a car anymore - scary!

Not been doing much the last couple of weeks, pulled the muscles in my back so have been on loopy pills, make you sleepy!

The kit has been a right pain, still haven't got the front or rear arch on the drivers side off, every screw (yeah it was screwed on) was rotten, and now that's off its glued on with the blood of superman! I'll have another bash at it later.

Unfortunately I have found quite a bit of rot behind the rear bumper, panel is shot, also looks like it's been on a rear end,so I'll be chopping it out and replacing, here a few photos

Went to have a look at a rear end of a car for a donor, looks solid, so gonna go play with a cutter over the next few weeks.

Finally got the kit off, apart from one screw, didn't want to get the drill out, I was feeling a bit fuzzy from the bottle of rum I finished at 5am.. Broke the front drivers side though, oops!

Plus sides, my wings are genuine!

Some photos…

Oh yeah also took a lot of the interior out, carpet etc… Found out some tool had jacked the car up on the floor, or parked the car on a mountain
