My J Plate Sportline - Build Thread - Updates on last page

ok so little update

got a cork rocker gasket, and also sent my original rocker off for powder coating as the other one i bought didnt fit. Also got a new water pump, thermostat, all seals, alternator, rad bracket powder coated, and did a quick refurb job on me wiper arms, should be all good for the miles to the AGM and Germany now :-). Just waiting for some stainless steel rocker bolts then be able to tell whether i have fitted the above correctly, fingers crossed for no oil or water leaks!

well if people sold them with caps as well it would help lol :-)

i reckon by the time i've bought a set, the right bolts, deeper dishes, had them painted in the red to match the car and all the other bits needed i wont see much change from £1000 and thats before any rubber is put on them :-(

there is a set on a blue cabby on ebay at the mo, that are near enough exactly how i want mine, with the black nuts and bolts etc

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150881699638?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

think they key is keep and eye out for a set like funks (when i have spare cash) and then just build them up slowly and do as much of the prep work as i can!

Wow

Well just read through my thread again and realised that the car i picked up from Ireland in March "that didnt need anything" i have actually month by month chucked a fair few quid at it, its so addictive! :-)

So my plans for winter was refurb the standard wheels but with polished lip, then some came up on here in Scotland which were temptin as looked mint and as just as i was about to bite the bullet and do deal i got offered some BBS RM's local. After seeing pics emailed over they looked tired, but after poping to take a look at them they were presentable so deal was done :-)

They are 8j on the front and 9.5j on the back, they will get a refurb next year if i decide to keep them and not go back to standard look. At standard running height with no weight in the back im a not getting any rubbing on arches which is good, and i think that back looks ok. The front need to be lowered 20-30mm so im gona have a think about what i can do lowering wise and still get it on me drive ok.

Ive never run stretch before, so not sure on that, i know a few feel its dangerous and there is alot of stretch on the backs, but im gona take it steady make sure PSI is kept up and see how i go.

So plans now

This year

(1) New BBS centre Caps
(2) New rear badges from guy in Athens on Ebay

Next year

(1) Decide on what wheels i am sticking with and if the RM's take rears down to 8j or 8.5 and refurb wheels completey . If standard wheels refurb them

(2) money permitting get car blown over to sort age related marks which really annoy me

So thoughts good an bad welcome on the new wheels, i know its riding high but has to be like that for a while

I've just pmed u about the wheels and about the badges earlier, bizarre!!

Get the badges they are worth it in the long run.

IMO and I'm no expert as u know, the wheels are exactly the look for the car and the same as I would have BUT way to wide for me.

With smaller lips and non stretched tyres they will look great.

You will just need to get the ride height and the wheel width just right to suit the car but also your taste and that's what matters as its your car, so do what you want.

I'm jealous of the wheels as they are what I want eventually but I've too much to do to mine already.

Can't wait to see it next year :-)

Thanks Chris, i think you are right about the widths, i just need to work out what combination widths and ride heights i can do and still get car in driveway

They were a good price and presentable so i thought give it a go if not sell them on, as people are always after rm's

Don't sell them Rich as they are spot on.

You will find the right combo for the height and width that they will look perfect.
