New Mohair Roof

Hey Guys so went up to Jelly Belly's yesterday and put on a replacement Mohair outer skin and new top pad (kit between headlining and outer roof skin) on the sportline. I now cant wait to get the roof and car all cleaned up as i think mohair makes all the difference.

I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Jelly Belly for letting us use his drive and Chortle aka the roof gura for his invaluable help at doing the roof with me, and providing the top pad kit.

So here's some pics, i took 40+ so just wanted to choose the select few :-)

so 9.00 am time to get started.

the roof guru aka Chortle is straight on it :-)

Jelly Belly and Arf333 decided to just stand around for the day and look at the front of a cabby ha ha

decided although my top pad was not too bad, to fit new kit, so out with the old -

on goes new top pad kit, these kits from Chortle are awsome and such good quality!

time for glue :-)

this is a shot of the top pad kit and then the cover that goes over the top and is glued down before outer skin goes on

getting there ….

mohair starting to go on

the determination in jelly's face :-)

mohair looking good

bloomin fiddly rear window heater connections

Finally all back together and done :-), just needs a good clean and to setttle in now

then  as jelly is breaking his and scott needed some bits we played how many parts can you fit in a cabby for scott. and i managed to get the rear seat release knob and bar from Jelly as well :-)

Looks great the new hood and top pad. Loving the pics and at least the weather was with you. The black hood is a nice contrast to the red in the Sportline. Well done. Going to be some impressive motors at agm this year!

Cheers Hugh.

Very nice Rich!

All done in a day??

Wish I had the legend Chortle on my doorstep to help me when I did mine… :banghead:  :banghead:

Think I did mine 3 times in total…off…on..off…on.

Looks a great job.  :D

Cheers Guys

Well i found a local trimmer and had seen his work and it was top notch and well priced, but chose to make the 2 hour drive each way from Bristol to Leicester and make a day of it with the guys. What the forum is all about really :-)

Yeah we did it in a day started around 9am and were finished about 4pm, so 7 hours all in, 11 if you take the driving into account :-)

right got the fan cowling built up and fitted, also replacement sticker fitted to cowling. Had a few issues with the rocker, so that's gona be done at a later stage, and so much for paying for the best and getting the best, the original rocker gasket from VW at something like £20+ was pants, so gona get a cheap cork one off ebay. Havnt fitted the new expansion tank yet as looked at mine and its in pritty good nick, so might keep that for a later date, also fitted the new lights, boot seal lock etc and cleaned it up ready for Bristol Volksfest last weekend. Pritty happy with the results

then at a sunny Volksfest :-)
