Today, we got our carburator back with a new needle valve.
After starting it a few times we again got the same problem, the carburator drowned itself.

After searching a few minutes for the problem, we found out that our new fuel pump pumped too much fuel in the carburator thus, pushing the needle down which caused it to drown.
We placed our old fuel pump back on the engine and it ran perfect! But since our old fuel pump base is warped, we got an other new one ordered..
Atleast now we know what part is fault ;)

Wow that's a strange problem with the fuel pump, I've not heard that before!

Nice to hear your engine running, it sounds so smooth!

Today we got our new fuel pump fitted.
Engine only needs a small tune up, it idles not that great yet.

Still have to get some stuff sorted before our first test run :)- installing wiper spray nozzles
- getting some small grommets to close some holes in the motor compartiment
- replacing the hazard lights switch
- replacing the coolant hoses on the radiator with new, longer ones
- getting the correct screws for our side mirrors

Yesterday we finished the small jobs on the car

My brother went and got the correct screws for the side mirrors and some new coolant fluid.

While he sorted that, I fitted new coolant hoses, a new valve for the interior heating and the little connecting pipe since the old one was very rusty.
We also fitted the cover on the radiator but forgot to take a picture

Also fitted the hood latch

After that, the engine got fine tuned. We also took the car for a drive in the evening.
Feels great to finally get to drive it :D2 videos of he engine running:

Your mk1 is looking amazing - top work all round.  Looks like its just rolled out of the showroom.

Do you have any car shows near in Belgium to show it off at ?

Looks mint now, took a lot to get from where you started to where you are now, what part of Belgium are you from? If you ever have a megabus flashing his lights at you on the e40 or e19 it'll probably be me admiring your car

Yesterday I did some small works on the car.
On our first test drive we noticed 1 of the numberplate lights didn't work and the little lamp in the VDO clock turned on and off, both had a bad connection.
All of this is sorted now, we'll probably do an other test drive this Sunday.
We might record it with a GoPro so expect some footage ;)I also cleaned and painted the carjack and secured it on the spare tire

rostill Thank you! I live 30min from Ghent,
Haha that would be awesome :D

Yesterday I cleaned the coil, when we got the car we also got a coil for an electronic ignition which we cleaned up.
But since we got a mechanical ignition I didn't have the chance to clean it when we first started the car :)Painted and applied a new sticker

Fitted back into the car

I think I never posted a picture of the engine bay before, so here it is.
Still want to tidy up the cables

Today we got the wheels aligned at our local tire shop.
There we met an older gentleman, who had owned a few VW golfs in the past.
We had a nice conversation about everything golf mk1 related

Car sitting on the driveway

In the evening I also had a look at the rear wiper motor.
It looked like the brushes had a bad connection, all sorted now

Car came out fantastic!. I do like your cobblestone driveway too. Wondering why the neighbors bricked in those nice windows on the second floor?
