This is such a great thread, love reading your updates.

That gearbox certainly took a good chunk out of you, pour vinegar on it, that''ll sort it out!

Keep the updates coming, very inspiring.

What radiators do you guys run and fans? I have a bartek boost return pipe and merc sprinter intercooler. Also will I have to move my battery?

Cheers

Lovely looking motor you have there mate. Its only going to be better with a G60 in it.

I've seen quite a few people running 1.5l top fill radiators (think paul h has one) but others say that they're not up to the job. The safe bet is to run a corrado g60 radiator because you know its designed for the job (twin core rather just single core). I've evn seen people switch the top fill end tank onto a twin core radiator.

If your running a sprinter intercooler you'll need to move the battery or buy a slimmer one because of where the outlet sits.

P.S. I've got a brand new 1.5l top fill radiator for sale if your interested (repo)

Little bit concerned that it came back without the gauze filter and lid to the swirl pot though! will this cause me any issues?

I will need to check all outlets and inlets to ensure nothing is blocked.

Cheers chap, I've bought most of the stuff now and need to do something with it lol.

All I have left to buy is a G60 radiator, fuel lines, manifold and exhaust.

I will need to get the odds and sods such as clips, bolts and dressy stuff.

I'm not sure if my drive shafts are correct as the engine was a modern 1.4 16v with its associated gearbox.

Ok bit of an update. I now have brand new driveshafts and a new G60 radiator.

Going to mark and remove the timing gear this weekend so I can start painting and reassembling the engine :)

Does anybody know how to remove the timing belt cover remaining in the pictures below? do I need to remove the timing belt to do this?
I want to replace all seals, replace the pulleys with alloy ones and clean the whole area up.

I assume the timing belt cover needs to be removed before the alternator bracket can be removed as there is a hidden bolt :

Carried on degreasing the block, this has taken some time as you can see the state of the engine when it arrived in earlier pictures.

Painted the metal timing cover back plate with an enamel paint and then realised I need to bake it in the oven, haven't done that as I think the wife won't agree lol

Managed to get hold of a pre polished rocker cover and a genuine new dip stick tube on the bay :). Hopefully it will arrive before Xmas!

Have a day off next week with dad to get as much as we can done then 2 weeks over Xmas to get this project moving :)

UPDATE 17/12/2013

Painted the supercharger side again and degreased and sanded back the exhaust side of the block and then gave it a lovely coat of paint :) gallery_23668_406_93610.jpg gallery_23668_406_386123.jpg
Received my polished rocker cover. Needs a bit more polishing but already makes the engine look better.

Finally ordered a replacement mount from retrofication as I've heard the stock mount can go like chocolate when removed.
