Tried this mod , fitted in the bottom left slot turned on the lights and it made audible sound
Tried it later on and nothing happened so sourced another relay and absolutely nothing :(

Any ideas satans_creation ?

Hey up, it sounds like a wiring fault or the connectors on the fuse bx are not making contact. Have you tried leaving lights on and wiggling the relay? If you have tried a second relay it must be the wiring.

Fitted mine today, such a simple fix, no more worries about leaving the lights on.

Found one on eBay.de for €9 posted.
Tested and comes with a 3 months warranty.

That'll do if only to save my red face, which although hasn't happened yet it will do because I always drive with my headlights on!

Love this mod, I've added these relays to all my VWs.

There's a bit more detail on M6M62's thread on how to fit them in earlier cars and also details of the Seat models you can find them in at breakers yards:

Any one know what year and model cars these relays are fitted to?
Mk3 Golf?
Which years of Audi?
I've tried Mk4 golfs and later polo's and they are different as I've a couple of scrap yard to search?

Mark these Relays have been used across a range of cars including Seat's for one.

Just search the relay number with the part number, it worked for me mate! 😉👌

Found a new 292 relay and fitted it last night all seems to work but it's not a very loud sound compared to the wife's VW Touran buzzer?
Anyone else think its a quiet nee naa sound or is mine faulty?

I've just fitted one in my 1983 tintop and it's definitely loud enough, you might have a faulty one.

I hope not it was a brand new genuine VW one still in a box…..

I think I need to find someone with one fitting a listen to theirs but saying that I've not used the car in a few weeks as I've still not got a front windscreen so maybe trial it and see/hear what it like when the car is back in daily service in the next couple of weeks.

One of the Easiest "WHY in the heck they didn't do this at the start" mods ever.

My Version was to cut the wires and re-run them to the KeySwitch so as long as the key is out,  all the lights are off.

This is way easier….. Even an OLD dog can learn new tricks.

ps.  You can't Bump Start an EFI engine on a dead Battery… Gosh I miss my MG at those times.

Spend a bit of time last night going through the website, came across this thread and thought to myself I have got one of them!.

I purchased the 292 relay ages ago with its separate relay mounting and associated wires. Thought I would save it for another day, not realising that I could just plug the relay in to my relay board.

Works a treat!

I also installed the intermittent wiper mod by replacing the relay 19 with relay 99.

2 quick jobs done in one day!.
