Series 1 gli EG won't start with new injectors

Post

So I got my injectors out and found half of them were 100% blocked, sorted the rest of the fuel system out and the car did run before this but very rough obviously, I've got 4 new injectors in and am 100% getting fuel & spark, the injectors are seated correctly with new seals, it won't kick into life, I haven't touched the mixture screw yet is my mixture going to be completely out now? Or am I just flooding the engine, I haven't had the jump pack with me at the moment so haven't been able to crank it for ages, TIA

"After assembly of the fuel system, run the fuel pump and depress the air flow sensor plate for a couple of seconds to bleed air out of the fuel distributor. Remove one injector line from the top of the fuel distributor, and while looking into the injector port in the top of the fuel distributor turn the mixture adjustment screw clockwise until the port just starts to fill with fuel then turn the mixture screw 1/2 turn counter clockwise. Reinstall the injector line, start the engine and adjust mixture when it reaches operating temperature. This is the Bosch recommended procedure for initial mixture setting and adjustment."

Found this online, anyone relate to this and think its worth a go?

You probably need to keep all you have done to this engine in one thread so we can see what else has been done. Is this the one that was seized? Have you done a compression test on it? It could be all sorts of things.
Why were the injectors blocked? Have you cleaned out the entire fuel system including the filters in the WUR? Valve timing?, ignition timing? Does it have points and condenser being an early one? If the engine was running OK where the mixture screw is now then something is different. Fiddling with the mixture screw might work or you might just be treating a symptom and not diagnosing the cause.

Sorry you're right I should have listed everything carried out, I actually found the starter motor has burnt out & caused a massive amp drain so looks like that's the non start issue initially thought my battery was giving up, hopefully rebuilding the starter this week, I've removed accumulator & pump replaced lines between both and cleaned out the whole system & brimmed with premium unleaded plus a new fuel filter, I will update when I get a good starter motor on it, the injectors were visually rusted from the outside from sitting for so long so hopefully that's all, valve timing is spot on and it is points & condenser but has good spark & brand new plugs, it doesn't have the timing mark like my clipper on the distributor is it just line the rotor arm with the 3 pin plug?

Just got my starter back home now so need to give it a go when I get the time, wouldn't think it was the same one that came out of the car would ya! Going to check in the bellhousing that it's not too full of crud and clean all electrical connections and give it a go! IMG_6458.JPG

UPDATE: Rebuilt starter back in and all good, now with it turning over properly I can see that it is getting WAY too much fuel literaly flooding the while engine… Can anyone guide me on how to adjust the mixture to a ballpark setting?? Is the guide I attached in my previous comment worth a try?

Okay got to the bottom of it the plunger in the fuel distributor is seized solid, worth trying to free it off and salvage it or waste of time?

I had a simular problem with my scirocco, replaced injectors and kept flooding looks like previous owner had adjusted the metering head screw to allow more fuel with blocked injectors so when I put new ones in it was over fueling. I backed it off about half a turn at the metering head and adjusted the tickover screw at the inlet now running sweet as a nut.
