Noisy Steering Wheel

Post

Good Afternoon,

Can anybody tell me what's going on with this and how to fix it? It sounds horrible to drive with this rubbing noise.

Recently changed the ignition barrel so I all my locks was on 1 key put the steering wheel back on and this is the noise it's making.

Thanks

if you are talking about the Scraping that you can hear when turning, it is either a DRY upper Bearing,
a lower shaft bushing that has fallen allowing the shaft to crape at the bottom, and or the finger wiper of the Shaft to the back side of the wheel needs some Dielectric Grease.

If you can pull on your wheel and it comes out about 1 inch towards you then you have knocked out your lower bearing… You simply look at the shafts bottom end and if you see a White or Yellowed sleeve, Push it back up, and secure it in place with either a hose clamp, or a large wire tie. Happens usually when replacing all the springs clips and collars to the upper shaft.  To prevent this in the future, you can use my Patented Replacement Method… That is prior to replacing the wheel make sure the lower bearing is in position.
Tale a flat blade screw driver about 10 inches long, and a medium number 2 blade, and insert it in the U-joint of the lower shaft.
Using a 1 foot long piece of 2X4 as a Fulcrum point, keep your foot on the handle of the screw driver to keep the shaft in position.

If your upper bearing was cleaned then you may have to add a bit more grease to it.

If your Wiper Stalks finger presser to the back of the wheel was cleaned or the back side of the steering wheel was cleaned then you need to apply some Grease.
