So when was the first righthand drive GLi built?

I have an August 1980 registered GLi (with single headlights rather twin headlights) and know of an April 1980 registered car (that I think is now probably gone forever  :()

Was 1980 the first year of righthand drive GLis to be imported to and sold in UK dealers?

April 1980 was when the Mk1 Golf CABRIOLET GLi's went on sale in the UK so I'd say that would be when they'd start coming out of the dealerships - assuming customers could pre order.
