So your better off bidding someone down and having someone that knows how these roofs are fitted properly with the savings.
The issue I see a lot is folks only replace the hood but not the padding nor the headliner.
It’s daft because to change the headliner you need to strip the hood off and the padding as the fixings are underneath.

The Roof job isn’t any better than what I do either. Hard to tell from his photos. Or lack of photos of the roof. So not sure how you can call it exquisite. My Hoods are OEM Harttz Material and sonnenland Material is just the weave pattern of the outer fabric.
To be honest most people wouldn’t know the difference.

This one was cobbled together with all sorts of rubbish inc curtains.
Rivets all over the place instead of staples.
They shattered the insert on the rear bow, by putting rivets in.
The area the webbing corner strap was ruined and you couldn’t keep the strap in place.
Tension bands were bits of old bungee cord,
The pad was totally shot.
They’d used all sorts of fixings and draught excluder instead of proper gaskets.
So we stripped it back to bare frame. Replaced what was missing.
They fitted new headliner in black, new interliner and padding, new Black Harttz Mohair Top.
All new gaskets. And replaced every clip and screw with new.
But it looks amazing now. The client was absolutely thrilled.

Told him I had one just like it, but in better condition.
Prices are stupid.. surely 99% don't actually sell. I'd only give 10k for an immaculate series 1 gti. Series 2 should be around 5-7k immaculate. Floppy's….. well, you can keep them.
I'm right out of the market, clearly. :/

It’s only worth what someone is willing to pay.
I was going to do a roof for someone then they decided to buy an old junk roof on a frame. Another backwards step. But it’s no better than what was there.
They want nearly £4K for the car and it’s a Clipper unfinished project.
With the likely costs of making the car right inc paint, roof, interior you’ll be in at £7-8K depending on level of finish and that’s paying shop prices not DIY. You’d not get that on the open market.
It’s plain daft.
But I’m seeing folks paying to much for a project cab.
People are just not researching into what’s really needed.
They buy the car find the roof leaks later on. Then it gets assessed you show what’s needed they don’t want to spend the money on making it right because they overpaid . They wait till next spring to punt it on to another unsuspecting buyer.
I’ve seen one car at least 4 times over the years and the same applies to what I told the previous owners.

What would the previous lady barrister think if she were to read the advert
" it factory correct in every last detail and I would conjecture is….. "
Wow, two major mistakes in grammar right here!
Surely this should be
'it IS factory correct in every last detail and I would NOT BE INCORRECT IN CONJECTURING THAT THIS is…….'
We won't even get onto the fact that he mixes metaphors and changes from 1st person to 3rd person present in his grammar throughout this entire advert.
Perhaps we should suggest that should this car sells he may want to use the proceeds on an Adult Education Course in English Grammar?
What a complete tool
Ian
(PS I am well aware that my grammar and language and spelling is generally atrocious, hence why I would never write something using big words that I dunna understand proper like what sum cleva peeps be doing)

The number of people calling their car super rare because it’s a limited Karmann edition. It’s just nonsense and ill informed people trying to big their cars up. I don’t care for the blokes advert but he may believe he’s pitching to a whole new audience.
There was a member on here who had a 13k one owner full service history Green LTH.
That was a mint car and that sold for 11k.
But that was an exceptional car.
If money were no object I’d of had it.

I haven't seen an immaculate Mk1 series 2 for £5-7k for a very long time. Prices are definitely on the up for tin tops and the good ones don't seem to hang around for long.

Agree with that. There will no doubt become a price point where we start to think - I could have a xxx for that money. Be it a deposit, Porsche, designer dog or bit on the side. Everyone has a second poison it just happens out main addiction is skinless knuckles and empty wallets.

Don't the cars count as the 'bit on the side', it's all you think about, all you spend all your money on and still it wants more!

I look at my Dubs as a dependable daily driver… Yes I could drive a newer car,, and I have drive GM, Rambler, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, Isuzu, and Saturn but why? I grew up on British Leyland, and found that I really really liked dubs later on in my life…..when I grew up.
