Lagos Yellow information and register

Last couple of weeks I have been getting back into all things MK1 after purchasing a 1982 Lagos Yellow 1.5 auto.
I don't think I've seen that many, so that attracted me to the car, and got me thinking about if it was actually that rare? So started doing some digging.
From searching pictures, old posts, google, etc Ive started to put some information together, but if anyone knows, corrects  or wants to add anything let me know.

From what I understand LK1A Lagos Yellow was only availble for 82/83 cars in the U.K?
Nearly all from what I can find are 1.5 GL or GLI models, and most are automatic. There doesnt appear to be any GTI's? So look s by 1984 when the gti cabby was introduced the color had been deleted by then.
The colour was discontinued due to the high levels of lead in the paint to make it Yellow?
There are only 10 cars known at this time, 9 believed to exist,  of which only 3 are on the road, and only 2 of the road going cars retain their original colour.

mine- UOA 270Y '82 GL auto, - on the road.
          -BLY 933Y '82 1.5, - no mot last mot Oct 2005,
          -GPP 98Y '83 GL auto- no mot last mot Dec '14,
          -FJI 4653 '83 1800 GLI - no mot, last mot July '14,
          -EGV 179Y '83 GLI with engine conversion - no mot, last mot July '15
          -DHA 432Y '82 GL - on the road,
          -CAP 177Y now Blue - on the road,
          -MJI 1730 '83 GL Auto- last mot Feb '11,
          - RYH 857Y- no longer on record,
          - ADU 368X- '81 GL Manual, Left Hand Drive and registered in this country in '93 as a black car with 81 year of manufactur.       Sold on eBay May 2017 as a project, and definitely an original Lagos Yellow car, Last MOT Aug '11.


 Any info or updates please add.

Ive had a yellow 1.5 gl manual box, my mate brought one a few months back. 1.5 auto both were y plates

That's brill cheers, but yes your old (top pic) one doesn't seem to exist now on any system, and the Irish plate one hasn't had a mot since 2011. Hope he gets it back on the road and tell him to keep it Yellow! Lol



 

Yeah he brought it because its yellow and rare, i sold mine 10-15 years ago, i wonder if its had a reg change, you don't normally see no details at all.

Yep. Definitely a GTi

That's interesting, don't normally see fuel injected cabs marked as GTI that early, but you cant argue with the V5

I saw one in Melksham, Wilts last year which I'm sure is Lagos yellow. Has an Irish reg but it comes up as a Golf GLI Cabrio if I do a vehicle check on it. It's none of the cars listed above! Also currently on the road! I don't know who owns the car so not sure I should post the reg on here.

Very nice, I bought Jazzydogs GTI shown earlier in the thread and have done a mild mechanical refresh after he had done the body and roof, gets so much attention anywhere I go in it.
