everything you need to know.
www.cabby-info.com museum.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Yes they do.    With the VIN you can get the month and year of build.  With a bit of linear interpretation you can figure out a rough day

You can check numbers by first registration which would say to me they aren't later imports.

1974 registered Golf L is showing 1 SORN zero taxed
1974 registered Golf LS is showing 1 Taxed zero SORN

Which one is yours?  ;)

It’s registered on 1-1-1975 on the logbook so I assume it’s down as a 75.

Hmmmm now that's a good question, Iooking at 1974 as year of manufacture for a Golf L we have 1 taxed and 2 SORN.   If we go to date of first registration we have for 1974 0 taxed and 1 SORN which would suggest you are correct and it would appear in 1975.

No, it's just UK registered cars be they sold here or imported.   They didn't start selling the Golf in RHD format until October 1974 so yours has got to be one of the oldest remaining examples having been registered only a couple of months later.   I'd always favour a RHD car over LHD, part of the reason I've never been taken with the golf rallye, it's not the £30k+ asking price at all ;)

Would love to see some pictures

Thanks again for the knowledge,it's quite hard to get my head round the fact that out of hundreds of thousands produced there's only a handful left,I'll get a few more pictures up soon,it's a work in progress, don't want to give it a full resto as I'd rather leave it close to original as possible, that and the fact it would probably cost me about £15k+to get it done

No specific numbers for 1974 but there won't be many having been sold as only came on sale towards end of year in UK, certainly under 5,000 were sold.  In 1975 19,111 golfs were sold in UK.   That was the end of the swallowtail version I think.  I caught up with your swallowtail thread.

£15k and probably double it.  I'm just in the process of a nut and bolt refurbishment (not a restoration) on a Subaru and it's about that with no welding or paint work required.  It does include an engine rebuild mind.
