Peirburg to weber conversion

Not gone into it yet but the waterway is from the cylinder head on a 1.6 and fed by a pipe on the 1.5

i just got a brand new webber fitted last week after that bloomin pierberg crap gave up on me again after replacing all sorts of bits on it,,,wow what a difference its like a totally different car ,much more power way better mpg and smoother,a pain having a manual choke as theres apparently a technique to start the bugger from very cold, after it warms up after 5 mins its fab and starts so fast.get a carb new not second hand as its worth the warranty, unfortunately i had to goto the guy that does my vw work so its rip off prices compared to going to crazy quiffs etc but i had no other option at the time.doh,,,,,best 400 odd quid ive spent that includes getting the new carb plus vat and fitting, rember webber are not cheap and every single person ive spoken too says pierbergs were crap even new let alone after 100k.lol

"Pierburg is crap" simply means "I dont know how to setup this carb"

Carb's just evaporate fuel its not any better or any worse, just different :) of course it'll be better than a badly setup Faulty/Pierburg, but that doesnt mean its a bad carb.

I'll put money on 9/10 the pierburg is not setup and/or the sensor block is faulty.

However I will say this for the Weber its a simple carb to strip and clean :) and also adjust.

yeah i agree, when they work the pierburg 2e series are brilliant carbs. unfortunately they can be a bit un-reliable as they ten to have one symptom for about 6 different possible problems lol.

my mates jetta ran like a dream one i'd stripped it and replaced the waxstat and a few other bits.

I'm contemplating fitting one to my 1.1 at somepoint once the manifolds have been sorted.

I have a friendly rolling road guy who can advise me on jetting!

yeah anyone who says the 2e2 is crap has tried and failed to fix one

my 1.6 had the best engine I've ever driven in terms of day to day reliability, smoothness and fuel economy. and thats compared to 1.8, 2.0 8v and 16v, and digifant and kr management!

as above, when they work they're awesome, when they dont they're a nightmare. if you read my 2e2 faq from top to bottom, everything in that list was bust on my car

9 years on and after finally setting up the carb correctly after many years of running it lean rich or winter setting summer setting it all works great and withthe car being an auto i manged today to do a 0.70 mph down a hill in 7 seconds…it scared the jings out of me and the car next to me…lol was fun though..the innitial 0.30 is silly fast from the light it just flys much quicker of the mark than a manual and no wheelspin…..folk thinks old autos are slow…not when there set up properly and upto temp.
