Haynes Manuals

Hi all - please help….

I have a 1988 Golf GTI Cabrio 'F' reg.  This is a Mk 1 'big bumper' model.  Does anyone know which Haynes Manual will cover this year and model?

Thanks

Jason

Welcome to the club first of all.

I think the brown one covers it in part.
But the American 'Bentley' manual covers the top slightly better and if you have the 'Digifant II' fuel injection system it's the only manual to cover that.

But as yours is 88 I'm fairly sure not.

Mind you maybe rubjonny can correct me on that! ;)

The Bentley has both the CIS and Digifant engines covered, the carbed not so well.

The suspension in the Bentley is mostly for LHD models and doesn't touch the RHD Steering and pedal changes.

You would of thunk that Bentley would of made a RHD one but that doesn't appear to be the case.

The Haynes that I have is "Merican" as  well it is a Gray colored one that has all gassers from 80-93 and you can say it is "West" oriented.

The Brown Haynes I do think is the one you want it is RHD based.

I like the Haynes over the Bentley for the reason that they have better copies of the Wiring Diagrams than the Bentley.

I took care of a 81 Rabbit Diesel from 81-2000 using only but the Haynes, and the model years was from 1978-1980 so I was a little left out in the dark of the wiring….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I've found I need 2 manuals to cover my 1988 Gti the red Mk2 Scirocco haynes manual covers the engine, gearbox, running gear, fueling (injection system) most of the electrics but it won't cover any of the body work!

I use the brown Mk1 golf manual for that, plenty of help and guides on here to cover the convertible roof. I've also found the brown manual goes more in depth into the fuel system etc and how to test etc as it's an older manual and a time when you fixed things not just throw new parts at a car.

One like this.
